Story
It was 1970 in a defeated Rhode Island fishing town. Vietnam and Nixon dominated the national news. Both the near and distant future looked bleak. But they were five inseparable high school friends with something incredible in common: an unwavering resolve to look after each other no matter what hell life threw at them. And they were on a mission. The plan was simple: Go off the grid before they turned 18 to avoid the draft. They’d sell some grass, stack some cash, then head west and start a commune. What could possibly go wrong?

The price of selfishness and betrayal.
Reviewed: 07-29-24
I loved this book! This is so much more than a coming of age story. Chemically induced narcissistic escapism is the Oregon dream of the future? This is more than a cautionary tale. This is reality in the streets today! This is a problem as large as world government, national governments, large or small businesses, social groups of all kinds, right down to the family units. Self Medicating psychological pain can lead to selfishness, self betrayal, family betrayal, social betrayal, and the cycle keeps going. Life is about the journey, not the destination.

Story
Ryan wakes up to find his contractor dad building walls to turn their big old house into a duplex. The family that moves into the other side includes Bizzy Horvat, the pretty girl he has a crush on at school. Bizzy claims her mother is a witch with the power to curse people with clumsiness or, in Bizzy’s case, astonishing beauty. When a bee gets caught in Bizzy’s hair, Ryan acts so quickly and radically to save her from getting stung that he attracts the attention of a group of micropotents - people with micropowers.

Although the narrator sounded as though he didn’t study the book for the appropriate voice inflection to project excitement, sadness, or change his voice for female characters very well, the story was powerful!
I appreciated the tender insight with compassion for the shortcomings of each character and the strength given by wisdom and insight. Thanks again for another great story of human interaction.

Story
That's the question that has haunted 14-year-old Ezekiel Blast all his life. But he's not a thief, he just has a talent for finding things. Not a superpower - a micropower. Because what good is finding lost bicycles and hair scrunchies, especially when you return them to their owners and everyone thinks you must have stolen them in the first place? If only there were some way to use Ezekiel's micropower for good, to turn a curse into a blessing. His friend Beth thinks there must be, and so does a police detective investigating the disappearance of a little girl.

The intellectual capacity of youth is underestimated in our culture. The characters show the potential with humor and wit. Micro powers maybe supernatural, but seem realistic in this book. I loved it all, and would love to see a sequel of adventure with these kids.

I enjoy the storyline, but I find myself confused by the antagonists. Perhaps the monotone of the narration has something to do with that. I love Gideon and look forward to his development. I am looking forward to listening to the rest and series. It is very colorful and exciting.

Story
In the world of Warbreaker, each person is born endowed with the power of one Breath―which can be sold and collected by others, then used to Awaken objects and even corpses to do their bidding. A few individuals who die in glory return as gods, with the power of thousands of Breath, but no memory of their mortal lives―and are enthroned in the Court of Gods in Hallandren’s capital. To Vivenna and Siri, princesses of Idris, the abuse of Breath and the claim of the Returned to be gods are repugnant blasphemy.

I have loved Brandon Sanderson books for years. This, however has been a disappointment. I don’t know if the reader was the weak link or the story. Perhaps it just wasn’t the right story for the reader. Sorry I couldn’t give a better review.

Story
Keras Selyrian is already well on the way to cutting his name into the annals of legend. He’s fought false divinities, thieving sorcerers, and corrupt demigods - and left them defeated in his wake. But he’s a long way from home, and Kaldwyn offers a different brand of danger than he’s used to. He’s already got a sword of unfathomable power, but it’s damaged and leaking world-annihilating mana, so he’s in the market for a new one. Possibly six. The more the better, really.

Story
Everyone loves Mathias. Naturally, when he discovers it’s his destiny to save the world, he dives in headfirst, pulling his best friend, Aaslo, along for the ride. However, saving the world isn’t as easy, or exciting, as it sounds in the stories. The going gets rough, and folks start to believe their best chance for survival is to surrender to the forces of evil, which isn’t how the prophecy goes. At all. As the list of allies grows thin and the friends find themselves staring death in the face, they must decide how to become the heroes they were destined to be.

The company of the Ring is torn asunder. Frodo and Sam continue their journey alone down the great River Anduin - alone, that is, save for the mysterious creeping figure that follows wherever they go. This continues the classic tale begun in The Fellowship of the Ring, which reaches its awesome climax in The Return of the King.
