Story
Maulkin didn't know dying would mean a new eternity of dungeon delving, monster slaying, and glory hunting. If he had, he wouldn't have been so worried about kicking the bucket on a date gone even more wrong than usual. Reborn in the wild world of Amaranth, Maulkin finds himself in a hulking demi-human body with a sword of a size to match. Marked as an Eternal, a fledging immortal of boundless potential, Maulkin soon discovers he's been given a mission by the elder pantheon of this new realm.

I cannot imagine where all these positive reviews come from. Every time a character opens thier mouth something retarded comes out. Annoying unfunny jokes slapstick 3 stooges "comedy" screeching uneven over done "voice acting". Maybe children like this idk. I wouldn't have when I was young. You can always guess what going to happen next. The stupidest thing possible.

When it's good its great but a bit to much reluctant/whiny hero. Sometimes there are just weird forced interactions that are cartoony or acting foolish that feel very YA or nonsensical.

Derek has saved villages and maybe even cities from overflowing dungeons. He later helped with the capture of one of the most despicable noblemen in the entire kingdom. After that, he, at the request of Prince Edgar, helped prevent upcoming danger by clearing a raid dungeon and keeping it from overflowing into the kingdom. Then, he and Silvi joined a war effort that began while he was clearing the dungeon.

After a hundred years of regrets, revenge is just around the corner. We have finally reunited with Kristan, Marko, Franja, and Renata, who proved to be instrumental in our battle against Harkel's Hellhounds and the siege on Arrdeam. Having brought down the first leg of Harkel's slaving empire, we're getting ever closer to cutting off the head of the snake. Before we can face him, though, we must still grow stronger, but assassins lurk in the shadows and dangerous foes want us dead.

Solid
Reviewed: 12-22-24
Solid book in a solid series. I wasn't expecting the story to take the direction it did, or the current arc to end this quickly. I enjoyed most of the book. There is a section toward the end that is a bit to idk fever dream/nonsensical "story-like". It makes more sense by the ending. Its not so much about answering questions as asking new ones to setup the next arc, I think this is like a pretty good first "season" arc and I'd give season 2 a shot when book 4 comes out.

I tried to like this series a few times. Book 3 is as far as I managed and I quit 1/2 way through. The MC is written to be a dumbass. I don't find the "humor" funny it's like the 3 sea shells joke from Demolition Man told repeatedly 300 times per book. I hate him moping and missing his wife and kids. I hate chars written to be obviously evil to the audience but through trickery and "mind control" or w/e the characters never realize it. It lazy and bad and makes for a terrible story. I see this story recommended a lot so I kept thinking it would get better. It doesn't. The characters never take the world seriously so why should the reader. DNF One of the series where the writing actually got worse as the series continues.

Story
No one leaves a negotiation happy. But wounded pride aside, Sylver was overjoyed with how everything turned out. He left with a talented clairvoyant, an army of highly skilled dark elves, a talking golden crowbar, the finger of the greatest lich to ever exist, and all it cost him was a fraction of a fraction of a century. Sadly Eira didn’t simply stop and wait for his return, Lola became a king, Bruno concocted abominations, Faust drowned his sorrows in powders and elixirs, and the ever-looming threat of High-Elves and Krists, loomed more than ever.

Nothing unknown from previous books gets explained or revealed. The main plot/story doesn't move forward in any way. 20 more hours wheel spinning side quest that doesnt even get resolved. Another new location and a bunch of cultivation nonsense that is half over explained and half vague nonsense. The MC literally explains world building "off screen" to characters or says i'll explain later ect. The MC repeating the same amoral pragmatic arguments for the eleventy second time. Then the last 30 mins of characters vaguely talking at each other about things that already happened or might happen in the future repeats in a recording error and the book stops without a ending. I feel like I just listened to 20 hours of AI generated world building and Magic system explanations. Everything generic was massively over explained and everything unique is vague and incoherent. I'm completely done with this series. I won't be back.

Story
It’s Drop Night, the one night every decade when the gods hand out cards to a lucky few. If you get a deck, you’re a deckbearer capable of wondrous feats within the Great Game system. You can control powerful monsters and summon mantles that let you fight alongside your beasts. Ethan Wolfe, top enforcer for the Grimm family mob, has already been overlooked on two previous Drop Nights. People of his ilk seldom receive cards, as the gods tend to favor people who follow their divine mandates, but that doesn’t mean Wolfe can’t hope.

good detailed card system
Reviewed: 10-02-24
Has a detailed interesting card system. Fights are a little strange mixing slow card play into gun fights. Its a but on the line for me with suspension of disbelief. The story characters and combat all feel a bit cartoony/video game -like. It seems YA but with dark/edgelord themes. I'm biased some against mafia plots especially when everyone feels like a caricature of a goon. I end up being a fan of the cards/gamelit and not to impressed with the setting or characters. I will probably give book 2 a shot and recommend this one for someone looking for a card based litrpg with the understanding that its tied to a very predictable and cartoony mafia setting/plot.

The last book was better this one feels incomplete. The Muses and the Archive have been foreshadowed quite a bit and the blurb mentions it but its mostly pushed off until the next book. The ending felt like a jump the shark and a cliffhanger a bit to contrived and then abruptly ends. Quite a bit of slice of life for the book length or at least story progression. I'll probably listen to the next one even though it's going to be MC vs Daddy Demon part 5 or w/e

way to short 7.5 hours of story 1.5 hours of reading the chars decks
Reviewed: 07-13-24
I'm invested in the story and I don't mind the occasional short book. However if I continue the series will depend on the length of the next installment. This book is significantly shorter than book 1. If book 1 was 9 hours and there is a solid 1.5hrs before the final arc that is just reading off the 4 party members decks. I dont mind sections like but i skip them as the cards are covered multiple times before and im sure after that point I wouldn't have even burned a credit trying the series.
