I was hooked after listening to Duplicity, but this triumvirate narration coupled with outstanding writing was even better. I really liked the way a variety of subplots came together with meaningful and unexpected conclusions.

I have been a Peter Diamond / Simon Prebble (specifically) audio book fan for some time. I did not listen to these great books in sequence, but it didn't matter. They are all excellent. However, Lovesay writes the best ending to all of his mysteries here.
You will NOT be disappointed and as usual, Prebble is the voice Master bringing every character to life. A+

Story
Peter Diamond is tasked to run security for a wedding. Seems a bit beneath his extraordinary detective talents, as well as his title as head of Bath's CID, but this isn't your run-of-the-mill ceremony: the bride and groom belong to families on opposite ends of the law - and someone is trying to sabotage the nuptials by taking out a hit on the father of the bride.

This lush novel, set in 1766 England and America, evokes an era ripe with riot and revolution, from the teeming streets of London to the sprawling grounds of a Virginia plantation. Mack McAsh burns with the desire to escape his life of slavery in Scottish coal mines while Lizzie Hallim is desperate to shed a life of sheltered subjugation to her spineless husband. United in America, their only chance for freedom lies beyond the Western frontier - if they're brave enough to take it.

An excellent book made better by Simon Prebble

I have never read a Ken Follet book, but I am a avid fan of Simon Prebble. To me, this book was very well written, fast moving and had just enough elements to both educate and keep you interested till the very end.
And a romance with a happy ending?
What’s wrong with that?

George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.

He does an outstanding job, regardless of the material and 1984 is no exception.
Sad ... but too many elements of his book have and are coming true.

I became a Deon Meyer fan because I was originally looking for mysteries narrated by Simon Vance. I have enjoyed all of Deon Meyer's Benny Griessel books. Mr. Meyer has created such vivid characters in the very capable hands and voice of Simon Vance, that you look forward to the latest installment ... like The Last Hunt.
The narration was A+, my disappointment was the ending.
A solid 4 star.

Story
In August of 1914, the British ship Endurance set sail for the South Atlantic. In October 1915, still half a continent away from its intended base, the ship was trapped, then crushed in the ice. For five months, Sir Ernest Shackleton and his men, drifting on ice packs, were castaways in one of the most savage regions of the world. Lansing describes how the men survived a 1,000-mile voyage in an open boat across the stormiest ocean on the globe and an overland trek through forbidding glaciers and mountains.

The writing is only surpassed by Prebble's unique way of bringing the words to create intense images and feelings of a journey that very few could make and survive. Outstanding.
