Story
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

Wipes away false cultural narratives
Reviewed: 09-29-21
Wiped away the false narratives that our culture teaches us. You don't have to be self sustained and go it alone. That doesn't make you stronger or more resilient. Relying on a partner you love and trust is the way to feel those amazing qualities. I learned a lot from this book and I am taking it in to my active pursuit of finding a loving and kind partner.

Story
The emotional trauma we suffer as children not only shapes our emotional lives as adults but also affects our physical health and overall well-being. Scientists now know on a biochemical level exactly how parents' chronic fights, divorce, death in the family, being bullied or hazed, and growing up with a hypercritical, alcoholic, or mentally ill parent can leave permanent, physical "fingerprints" on our brains.

Truly an awakening!

This might be one of the best books I have ever read in my life(I'm 33). It was extremely affirming and provided and awakening through the grief I have experienced. I finally came to understand who I am and was always always meant to be. I want to buy the author as many desserts as she can eat! My gratitude for this book is immense!

Once again the ladies of MFM kill (pun intended) it! I am an avid listener and long time fan of the MFM podcast and crew, so I knew their book would be equally as amazing. The proof is in the pudding as they say ;) I laughed I cried and was fully engrossed in this vulnerable look into the lives of Karen and Georgia. Sharing a piece of themselves with me.... "us" is beyond special and I can't thank them enough. I feel like a stronger human because of them sharing such relate-able life experiences in this book that most people shy away from. #Murderino

Story
One late spring evening in 2010, Shannan Gilbert - after running through the oceanfront community of Oak Beach screaming for her life - went missing. No one who had heard of her disappearance thought much about what had happened to the 24-year-old: She was a Craigslist escort who had been fleeing a scene - of what, no one could be sure. The Suffolk County police, too, seemed to have paid little attention - until seven months later, when an unexpected discovery in a bramble alongside a nearby highway turned up four bodies, all evenly spaced, all wrapped in burlap.
