What a great book! I cannot believe I had never read it. It had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. It was equally heartwarming. The end had me crying and holding my chest. SO SO GOOD!! Excuse me while I go binge more Dean Koontz books!

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Story
When Dr. Louis Creed takes a new job and moves his family to the idyllic, rural town of Ludlow, Maine, this new beginning seems too good to be true. Yet despite Ludlow's tranquility, there's an undercurrent of danger that lingers...like the graveyard in the woods near the Creeds' home, where generations of children have buried their beloved pets.

First of all, an absolutely phenomenal performance by Michael C Hall! I left this movie growing up! And I just never got around to reading the book regrettably. I love the fact that I listened to Michael reading it for me!
The story. Man. this book popped up when I googled the question of creepiest books and I immediately put it on my list to read. Wow, definitely way creepier than the movie! And now one of my favorite Stephen King books. Honestly gave me the willies a few times. *SHIVER*

Nails on a chalkboard narrating! Meh story.

I'm glad I didn't pay for this or I'd ask for a refund. I still think I deserve compensation. I'm trying not to be mean but man the narrator was not it. She read it in a monotone, over excited, screechy, high pitched, grating voice. Uuf. I usually love Freida books for their easy reads and entertaining story but I had to read this one on 2.0x speed just to get it over with. You may be better off just reading it in text. Skip the audiobook. Sorry narrator, listen to other Freida books where the narrator gives a low mysterious and suspenseful performance.

Patric Gagne realized she made others uncomfortable before she started kindergarten. Something about her caused people to react in a way she didn’t understand. She suspected it was because she didn’t feel things the way other kids did. Emotions like fear, guilt, and empathy eluded her. For the most part, she felt nothing. And she didn’t like the way that “nothing” felt.

Penelope deserves better than a lil b*tch Colin
Reviewed: 08-22-23
What a frustrating book. Penelope is my favorite character and deserves way better than an immature and abusive Colin. In previous books he was just kinda of the jerky brother but the way he's always treated beautiful Penelope is just abusive. He's controlling and has a horrible temper. He has very few redeeming qualities.
So frustrating as Penelope should be protected at all costs.
A-hole!
