<第三回 風狂の彼方に――一休宗純>
一休宗純(1394~1481)は、室町時代前期の禅僧(臨済宗)。狂雲子と号しました。京都の生まれで、父は後小松天皇(ごこまつてんのう)と伝えられます。室町幕府の権威が急速に衰えてゆく時代に成長し、尊王の立場から幕政を批判、また当時の禅宗の世俗化に強く反発し、本来の禅宗のあり方を模索しつづけました。生涯を通じて一定の寺に住せず、各地を行脚(あんぎゃ)して武士・町人たちと自由に交際、禅の普及に努めました。その奇才と奔放な言動は、多くの逸話を生んでいます。
一休は詩・連歌・書・画に秀でていましたが、ここでは彼の詩について、次の三つの側面から見てまいります。① 悟りを求める心を表現したもの、② 時の為政者や禅僧の堕落を批判したもの、③ 伴侶の森女(しんにょ)への深い愛情を告白したもの。

昭和二十九年、東京生まれ。早稲田大学大学院文学研究科博士課程修了、文学博士。現在、共立女子大学国際学部教授。著書に『中国古典詩歌の手法と言語』(研文出版)『漢詩の歴史』(東方出版)『漢詩の事典』(共著、大修館書店)など。平成十九年、NHKラジオ「古典講読――漢詩」講師、平成二十年より同「漢詩をよむ」講師。
