Everything has a price . . .

Railway magnate Tom Severin is wealthy and powerful enough to satisfy any desire as soon as it arises. Anything—or anyone—is his for the asking. It should be simple to find the perfect wife—and from his first glimpse of Lady Cassandra Ravenel, he’s determined to have her. But the beautiful and quick-witted Cassandra is equally determined to marry for love—the one thing he can’t give.

Everything except her . . .

Severin is the most compelling and attractive man Cassandra has ever met, even if his heart is frozen. But she has no interest in living in the fast-paced world of a ruthless man who always plays to win.

When a newfound enemy nearly destroys Cassandra’s reputation, Severin seizes the opportunity he’s been waiting for. As always, he gets what he wants—or does he? There’s one lesson Tom Severin has yet to learn from his new bride:

Never underestimate a Ravenel.

The chase for Cassandra’s hand may be over. But the chase for her heart has only just begun . . .

Glad it was reactive to the current cultural and political issues for women. Makes it deeper than your average romance novel. Severin is a complex but good guy that’s seems to be on the spectrum in an interesting twist. His character is written well to give a truer understanding to what it means to be on the spectrum and trying understand building a relationship.

Plus finally a deflowering scene that doesn’t make me cringe with questions of consent and concerns of gentleness. Would all teenagers.....and men read this.

This story sprinkles reminders throughout of classic books from my childhood. Well written, positive and inspiring.

h Heartwarming

I love Lisa Kleypas's book. She has created an intellectual latently caring person as the male character that has stolen my affections . This is one of my favorites.

a tender evocative romance

I’ve always loved the covers of the books in this series. They have been recommended, or caught my eye many times. But for whatever reason I kept pushing them aside. I think it may have had to do with what might have been said in the reviews. But I’ve really done myself a disservice if the rest of the series is like this book.

First of all the narration was excellent. Mary Jane Wells is a favorite of mine and she strengthened my esteem for her in this book. I absolutely loved her voice for the orphan Basil, I loved the innocent yet sometimes mischievous voice she used for Cassandra and I loved the bored tone she used for Tom. It made his dry humor even more funny when he made the occasional joke.

This is one of those books I MUST own in book form.

The Hero Tom is unfeeling. In fact he has only allowed himself 5 feelings and he decided to do away with the rest of them. But after meeting Cassandra, he has more feelings than he knows what to do with. He tried to cling to his way of life for as long as he can, but the moment Cassandra is in trouble he realizes he is willing to move Heaven and earth for her.

I love that as he is discovering his new feelings, Basil enters his life and slowly worms his way into Tom’s heart right next to Cassandra. This was such a full and satisfying story, I can’t wait to go back to the beginning of the series and read everyone else’s story.

Why did I wait?
