The only question which hangs over the life of Sir Richard Wyndham, notable whip, dandy and Corinthian, is one of marriage. On the eve of making the most momentous decision of his life, he is on his way home, a little worse for drink, when he chances upon a beautiful young fugitive climbing out of a window by means of knotted sheets - and so finds a perfect opportunity for his own escape.

The Corinthian has eveything that Georgette Heyer's devoted readership came to expect and that made her one of the most popular novelists of her day and still adored by a huge audience.

I liked the story, but the narrator didn’t differentiate the characters enough from her normal speaking voice and from each other so it took a long time to figure out who was speaking in every scene.

Hard to tell who is speaking

Not the right reader but she tried. She did a plausible Somerset accent but made no attempt to lower her voice when a man was speaking or differentiate the voices in other ways, so sometimes it was hard to tell who was speaking. But it was still fun after all these years!

Fun but compelling romp

It’s a marriage of convenience—until it isn’t. It’s an escapade! It’s an adventure! It’s a mystery! It’s a romance (but not for the protagonist). No, wait—it IS a romance for the protagonists. A few loose ends aren’t fully tied up, but we can guess how they’ll go. Narrated well.

One of Heyer’s most convoluted plots

There was enough difference in the voice to easily identify each character. It was being read to rather than listening to a performance, which I found found comforting.

I Enjoyed It

Very good narrator and of course as always a wonderful story by the masterful Georgette Heyer. I read it again and again but the Audible brought it vividly to life.

Fabulous
