England, 1947: A young woman finds herself under close observation in an insane asylum, charged with a violent crime she has no memory of committing. As she tries to make sense of her recent past, she recalls very little.

But she still remembers wartime in Yugoslavia. There she and her lover risked everything to carry out dangerous work resisting the Germans - a heroic campaign in which many brave comrades were lost. After that, the trail disappears into confusion. How did she come to be trapped in a living nightmare?

As she struggles to piece together the missing years of her life, she will have to confront the harrowing experiences of her special-operations work and peacetime marriage. Only then can she hope to regain the vital memories that will uncover the truth: is she really a violent criminal…or was she betrayed?

I was a little unsure of the narrator when I first pressed play. This was my first audio book. However, within just a few minutes my hesitation was gone and I was hooked. Great storyline. It was refreshing to read a historical fiction book set in WWII that focused on other countries besides America and Germany. You don't find many books that do that, at least I haven't. I can tell this is one book I will listen to again!

Loved tbis book

The first part of this book sounded like it was being read in a box or something. Very tinny. And honestly, the narration for most of it was on the verge of sleepy. There were a couple of parts where the narration picked up to suit the part of the story that was being told. I almost returned this several times, but thought it may get better so kept pushing through. It's a shame, also, because the premise is interesting, and not one I have read before in my WW2 readings. So, I will give it that as a plus.

Felt a bit muddled

It was good overall, but very slow. Took awhile to get interested but was good. Ending was “eh”

Uncovering the mystery, but slowly.

Wow! This book was so well written and performed. It brought me to understand each character and learn some wartime experiences for people behind the lines.

Such a riveting wartime romance

Kept u guessing. I had stopped reading for a few days. when I went back I somehow started reading a few chapters forward and couldn't believe how the plot had changed drastically, for the good. normally I would have just been angry with myself, and gone on to another book. I went back, found out where I really was in the book, and finished it.
Narrator was good. S he made u feel u were right there with the characters. she painted a good picture.
