Amanda Dykes
Private Matthew Petticrew arrives in France as part of the American Expeditionary Forces, an arrival that a war-weary France desperately hopes will help to end the turmoil. Having faced unthinkable things on the front, he is captivated by the sound of a lullaby, sung by a voice so pure he knows he must have imagined it. But rumors sweep through the trenches like wildfire, dubbing the voice "The Angel of Argonne", a mysterious presence who leaves behind wreaths on unmarked graves and footprints in the war-pocked soil.
Raised wild in the depths of the Forest of Argonne, France, Mireilles finds her world rocked when war comes crashing into the idyllic home she has always known, taking much from her. When Matthew discovers Mireilles, three things are clear: She is alone in the world, she cannot stay, and he and his two unlikely companions might be the only ones who can get her to safety.

I could not believe how the performances of these talented actors enhanced the story! Bravo! Each actor really knew his or her character, and portrayed the rich and nuanced writing with fidelity. I will listen again.
Superlative Performance of a Stunning Book

I cant believe I took this long to read this book. Do yourself a favor and read the book...it's like being suspended somewhere other worldly. Amanda is a musician. Every sentence so lyrical and the song that is this book is ...wow!!
Get this book...simply wow!!

As far as the story itself, I find that Amanda Dykes writes with the beauty of a poet. Not only that , but there is a depth to each character that grows as the story progresses. Even the frivolous ones become people of character.
This is not a plot driven book, but rather one of beauty and depth. I have read her other 2 books and loved them as well, but this one was her best.
voices outstanding, writing was beautiful
