Hot sex but a lot of internalized misogyny

Let's be honest, no one comes to this type of book expecting award winning writing. We come for entertainment and maybe some hot gay sex. And this series delivers. The sex is steamy and the books generally have enough of a plot to hold the reader's attention. The narrator does a phenomenol job and has a great voice.

The main issue with these books is the portrayal and treatment of women. I honestly thought these books were written by a man and was shocked to discover a woman wrote them. The second book in particular treats a group of vigilante type women in a distasteful way. The women in that group had all been victimized in some way and the police, the supposed "good guys" were so disrespectful of them. Obviously these women were going about trying to protect themselves and others in a way that broke the law. However, the police sure could have treated them with a bit more compassion. And the idea that that group would team up with an abuser was absolutely ludicrous. The author either writes women as universally into the male protagonists or as special because they are "different" than other girls. If you can get past the blatant misogyny and toxic masculinity, the writing is otherwise decent, the sex is hot, and there is enough humor in places to get you through. If you're bored and into lots of sex, buy the series. Just be aware that these books portrayal of women is rather insulting and patently false.

Did the job

At first I avoided this series, but after listening to a few of AE Via's other titles, I took a chance. So glad I did. previous reviews I could agree with on a part in the story that seemed out of place, but it's not enough to bring down the series (1-5) as a whole. The stories paced well. Aiden Snow's delivery was soothing and comfortable to listen to. At times I found myself holding my breath needing to know the next part (and not just on sexy scenes). Overall, a great "read" and has me moving on quickly to complete the series (6-8) with enthusiasm.

So fantastic!

A couple friends of mine nagged me to listen to this series and I am so grateful they did. This series was so good I'm at a loss for words. I absolutely cannot wait to listen to the next book and for A.E. to c9 tinue the series.
