Emperor's Bowels!!! That Was Good!!!

What a fantastic 40k book! Great action & comedy - the main character is a likeable roguish commissar. Oh, and no Chaos! No chaos cults or generic chaos demons - just Xenos!

a wonderfully written anti hero everyone will love

Caiphas Cain brings a rogue's swagger to the guardsmen as he deftly wields his las pistol and chain sword and becomes a more accidental hero out of self preservation and misinformation

IG lore doesn’t get better

I binged this in 3 days. It’s incredible and Ciaphas Cain quickly becomes a beloved character in 40k. He is cowardly, self-serving, and puerile in every description of himself, yet he is a most capable tactician, keen to details of immediate self interest, experienced beyond reproach and truly among the IG’s greatest heroes. He just won’t admit it to himself.

This is the height of 40k lore, written and performed wonderfully. If you have any passing interest in 40k lore, you do yourself a great disservice not reading this book. No super soldiers, no bolter porn, just normal men and women of the Imperium whose belief in the Emperor is unwavering and truly form the bulwark against which all xeno and heretic scum find theirs waves of blasphemy crashing tragically against.

Oh thank f***ing Emperor, finally!

Ever since I saw Black Library finally stopped hording their toys and partnered with Audible, I've been eagerly waiting for the Cain Archives, especially since I loved their audio dramas they now sell here as well. Did not disappoint, I'm just impatient that we've only got the first book only still. The voice is quite charismatic and draws you in, he really does sound like a man dictating his memoirs.

It was suprisingly funny.

The main character is a cowardly war hero always trying to save his own skin which creates lots of humorous events.
