Bakemono, literally “altered thing,” which translates as “monster.” Monogatari, literally “thing narrated,” which translates as “tale.” Combined into a neologism by he of the reversible nom de plume, they yield BAKEMONOGATARI, the monster tale that kicked off a series whose anime adaptations have enjoyed international popularity and critical acclaim.

A self-described loser, Koyomi Araragi is struggling at a prep school that he should never have gotten into. He has all but quit caring, but as a senior, he faces the chilling scenario of not being able to graduate. It’s time to cram, but the supernatural aberrations that keep on popping up in his provincial town won’t let him be.

Previously, our hero turned into a vampire and back, gained an acid-tongued girlfriend, and couldn’t find his way home thanks to a lost child. In this second of three parts, which introduces Suruga Kanbaru and Nadeko Sengoku, he becomes embroiled in a case that riffs on a classic English story from 1902.

Was always a fan of the Monogatari series and loved them since they first released Kizumonogatari. Am really glad they are doing more of them. Hope they do the whole novel series.

Been loving these since 2016

Take a shot every time Araragi says, "and yet..." and take a drink of beer anytime he says, "then again...".

I recommend this book to fans of the first, fans of humor, and fans of smart, witty characters.

Much like the first book, this one is split between short stories of Suruga Monkey and Nadeko Snake. These too have great twists and one even starts out by saying it’s a “bad end.” Heed that warning, though that’s what makes it so good when you see it. You were warned, yet you still get a gut punch to the feels.

And of course, the humor and all over the place tangential conversations are present and even better than ever. So, with that and excellent stories that pack a punch in small amounts, this is a wonderful book that I recommend.

Memorable, Comedic, Surprisingly Emotional

I always saw these books in bookstores and thought they looked dumb, but after reading a description, and seeing how many editions there were I decided to check it out. Very glad I did, and the voice acting is pretty good also!

Sooo decent
