About this listen

In this conclusion of the Abby Mullen Thrillers by the New York Times bestselling author of A Killer’s Mind, a hostage negotiator has one last chance to stop a deadly threat from her past.

When a series of suspicious fires leaves multiple victims dead in their homes, NYPD hostage negotiator Abby Mullen knows in her bones that the terrors of her childhood have returned. As a young girl, she narrowly escaped a fire set by Moses Wilcox, a fanatical cult leader who’s been presumed dead for thirty years. These murders have his fingerprints all over them.

Meanwhile, razor-sharp criminal profiler Zoe Bentley is investigating the arsons—but she’s never seen an offender like this. Zoe needs insight from someone who understands the mind of a cult leader. Someone like Abby Mullen.

As the unlikely duo teams up on the case, it’s time for Abby to face the memories she’s always wanted to forget: the cult that defined her childhood, the fire that killed her family, and the man who engineered it all. The race is on to catch a killer—even if it means braving the fiery wreckage of Abby’s past.

“Omer adds heat to the familiar plot of police pursuing a mad man. This one’s an obvious candidate for film adaptation.”Publishers Weekly

Another great installment!

I really enjoyed this book! It's so satisfying to see all the lined come together and make sense out if chaos. Great story line and the narration was on point as usual for these two.

I personally like it.

I wouldn’t consider myself like a heavy reader. I listen to books at night to help me fall asleep. A couple of times throughout this book I found myself a little stuck on this book and couldn’t fall asleep. I liked how long of a book this was. (I listen to about 1-2 hours a night) so books that make the credit worth it til my next one is always a plus.
I liked the story

Another great one in the series

This was a great story! It pulled me in from beginning to end and I loved that we finally get to see a Abby tracking down Moses Wilcox and getting the chance to take him down. She is putting her knowledge to good use and keeps popping up for Zoe Bentley, the FBI profiler. (Loved seeing Zoe again.) Once they started really working together it was great watching them team up. They worked well together and started to really put the pieces together to start getting closer and closer to Wilcox. This story was well written with plenty of twists and turns throughout that switch things up keeps reader engaged and guessing even knowing certain things. I loved this and would be thrilled to read more books starring Abby Mullen.

Great series…

I have really enjoyed this series. They conveyed how a cult gets its followers. Scary stuff!

Great Novel! Hoping for More!

I love reading about Abby Mullen, New York’s finest hostage negotiator. Although this is the end of a series concerning her origins in a cult, I am hoping that Mike Omer will read this and decide to continue writing novels with her as the main character. She is dynamic and the writing is very compelling. I simply could not put it down. Mike, if you can’t keep her in your next books, please create characters like her and storylines very similar to this series. I love police procedurals, crime thrillers, and learning about their world and ours. Getting inside the minds of our nation’s finest law enforcement officers helps me appreciate what they do ever so much more. #arson #FBI #PoliceProcedural #cults #HostageNegotiator #LawEnforcement #CrimeDrama #GreatNarration

Poor reading

The male voices. We’re fingernails on a chalk board bad. The rest of the voices were ok. Sometimes the reader spoke so softly you couldn’t hear what she was saying. Also annoying. Kind lost focus half way through but picked up near the end.

Why don't they switch voices?

Love the stories! The narrators aren't awful, but they really stink at cross gender voices. The male's women all sound like the worst drag queens, and the female's men all sound like drunken hillbillies. Her "sexy man" voice sounds like a caricature of a smarmy lounge lizard. Most of her regular men sound like a Pee Wee Herman imitation of Wilford Brimley. Or what you'd get from asking a high school kid to sound like a very very dumb person. It's gotten so distracting that I'm skipping the next one, if there is one. What I don't get is that both the narrators are talented at doing a number of different voices, so why doesn't the man do all the male voices and the woman do all the female voices? And let me be able to concentrate on the story

Great ending

Out of the 3 books in this series, this was my favorite. From the beginning it caught your attention and held it. Also if you have read other books by this author you will see he crosses over a favorite character, Zoe Bently, in this book. I also liked seeing Abby happy at times and finally coming to terms with her past. I highly recommend this series to anyone

No complaints!

I think this was my favorite of the three in the series. I like the introduction of Zoe Bentley. I have not read that series but may check it out next.

Loved the story

I've been looking forward to this book since I finished the other books in the series and the author did not disappoint. My only complaint is that the male narrator was so quiet I struggled to hear him unless I changed the volume every time the narrator changed.
