About this listen

A forgotten colony of humans live on a water world circling a tiny, faded star on the edge of the galaxy. The crew of their newest flagship, the Rampart, encounters an alien scout who is being chased by a dangerous foe. The encounter shakes the beliefs held by the people of Lashmere. With the aid of the mysteries of the origin tablet, they discover the true origins of their colony. These may be the last humans in the universe. Can they survive against their ancient enemy? Their only choice is to embrace an unknown past and fight with everything they have.

A proper sci-fi story

I was very pleased to hear a proper sci-fi story. Hopefully this turns into a long saga. Looking forward to a sequel. Well done.

A fun read

Great syfi. A little predicable, but a great story line. Political intrigue, starship battles, a lot of interesting characters. There was a lot of officers and flag officers that happened to be female, which I though was cool. All 'n' all a fun book. Will read a second one if it comes out. I'm sure I'll read 'A Faded Star' again, at some point. It was worth the money.......

Plot moves right along.

Freeport's imagination and use of fringe science is well done. He presents a well thought out navy with great characters.

Outstanding fast paced battle sci-fi!

The story is the best I've heard since the Lost Starship series. Excellent character development and multiple story lines to keep the listener off balanced and engaged. MacLeod Andrews is one of the best orators on audible. His spot on accents and inflections bring life to the characters and make it easy to distinguish even in fast action. Highly recommend.

it was a good story. I recommend it

I was afraid it would just be super smart monkeys against the universe. there is some of that but I feel there is more than that coming

Logical inconsistencies but a good yarn

The editor should be ashamed. The author should get better guidance.

The story is fun though the writing is stilted and overly florid. Other reviewers have complained about the level of ex-machina in the plot and I’d agree but what really sticks in your craw is the whole setup of the sphere of satellites that prevent FTL drive INTO the system that is mentioned 1 time and then to no consequence and which never appear again. This is but one inconsistency

The story is fun though.
