About this listen

'Tis one thing to be tempted, another thing to fall.

He's no stranger to sin...

A prolific serial killer is crucifying and 'baptizing' the working girls of Portland, and FBI Special Agent Luca Ramirez is locked in a desperate race to prevent the next casualty. The game changes when the latest victim is pulled out of the Willamette River alive, and Luca knows this witness may be his key to breaking the case. When the fanatical killer threatens her life a second time, Luca is assigned to protect the most unique and captivating woman he's ever met by going undercover as her lover. He finds himself locked in a relentless game of cat and mouse with an elusive and violent psychopath, while battling his temptation for the alluring woman he's charged to protect with his life. As the fatalities continue to mount, so does the intensity of his desire for a woman who should be forbidden, but is determined to dial up the heat.

New experience

Would you consider the audio edition of A Righteous Kill to be better than the print version?

I actually prefer the print version. Most simple reason..... I don't need WiFi to read but is required for Audible. I thoroughly enjoyed the narration, accent was fabulous. I find it fun to create the voices myself, slightly difficult with one narrator.

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Righteous Kill?

I can appreciate the names the characters were given, quite unique - Danny Boy and John the Baptist. To hear descriptions of the scenes I could get a clear visual.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Derek Perkins?

Yes

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, just don't have the time.

Any additional comments?

I was given a free copy of this book for a review. It was my first audio book.

Easy to listen to

The overall story and performance was good. It was a bit odd to hear a British narrator attempt a Southie accent. There were gratuitous sexual details that didn't really enhance the story. The ending was a bit predictable. But overall, I was engaged and entertained.

A sensory sensation!

What did you love best about A Righteous Kill?

Not only was this a "killer" story, but it was expertly crafted with wit, charm, physical and emotional tension. While I have read and listened to several hundred books, I'm always delighted when I find one that I could read/listen to over and over again; this one was no exception. I experienced what I call "reader's remorse" at the end of the book because I didn't want it to end. I hope that this book is the kick off to an exciting new series. As they say in Hollywood, "The show must go on!"

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The plot had some wonderful twists and turns which kept me riveted and begging for more.

Which character – as performed by Derek Perkins – was your favorite?

I am the type of reader who likes to appreciate each character for his/her own personal merit. What I liked about these characters was that each had the very essence of humanity that kept them real and interesting; each was so masterfully developed that it was difficult to find fault with any of them, even the bad guy. I understood and enjoyed them all.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Indeed! This is why I enjoyed this book so much. I felt the full range of emotions from beginning to end. Without that kind of awareness, it would feel empty; it was anything but empty.

On the edge of my seat

Great story that built characters as well as the edginess of the unknown killer. Somewhat damsel in distress story but with a unique character.

Almost missed awesome book because of bad reviews

First of all first of all I would like to say this book was awesome and the narrator was awesome. I’ve read several reviews That were negative about the story as well as narrator. I almost didn’t purchase this book however I know Kerrigan Byrne and I know she is an awesome writer. I’m so glad I took a chance and purchased this book. Not only was it awesome writing but Derek did an awesome job with every accent and the sex scene that women love. It makes me cringe to think I may have missed this because of anal uptight people who don’t love a beautiful sex scene (not erotica or trashy) in a mystery book. Good job , high Five !!!! To Kerrigan and Derek Perkins. I love , love, loved this story. Wish there were other books to learn about the rest of the family in Hero’s life. Totally worth the credit or money !!!!!!!

I have a beef with the narrator!

When one takes on a paying job, learn propper regional pronunciations. (Will-am-it not Will-a-met). PLEASE

Listen, you won't regret it..............

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, this was a very good audio book which drew me from the first page.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I was unable to work out how things would progress, would feel that I had worked it out who the suspect was but then an event would happen and the story would take another twist and I would be confused again.

What does Derek Perkins bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Derek Perkins really helps to round out the book and emphasise the dark and brooding personality of the main male character, Luca, as well as providing all the other characters in the story with personality. I was slightly perturbed by his voicing of Hero who seemed a little high pitched and breathy to me. As I found her to be quite a strong female character and thankfully not weak or insipid. However this could just be me, as having previously listened to all the other audiobooks editions of this author read by Derek Perkins, I probably subconsciously was waiting for a female voice with a Scots accent, which he does really well.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I was particularly moved in several places in the book. However most memorably to some tension relieving laughter by the portrayal of Luca losing his temper with Hero within the confines of a church and his ensuing tirade liberally peppered with curses that he kept apologising whilst continuing to proceed with the same behaviour.

Any additional comments?

This book was entirely different to Kerrigan's previous books and as I had enjoyed them so thoroughly in written and audio book versions, I was worried I might not enjoy this as much. I loved it and was hooked from start to finish. I now eagerly await her next offering.
