Good selection So so narration

There’s some overlap with other classic ghost story collections, but not as much as with some other titles. The stories are great… creepy, atmospheric and well written. The only drawback here is the narrator. He isn’t a very skilled actor. He doesn’t even attempt to find a voice for individual characters. His strength is his idiomatic accent, which sits halfway between Hans Conreid and Mr Sherman from Sherman and Peabody. His phrasing tends toward repetitive singsong, but not so bad that it isn’t listenable. I wouldn’t want to hear a whole novel by him, but it works for a short story before bedtime.

An Outstanding Short-but-Sweet Collection

I’ve listened to a number of classic ghost/horror story anthologies and this one, though all too brief. is among the best of them. Excellent narration vivifies these chilling and atmospheric tales.

Simon Stanhope will thrill you

Simon's mellow voice and focused performance will keep you entertained and at times frightened! I don't know his background, but I am sure he has many years experience in drama and literature. By all means buy this collection!

Superb stories, perfect narration

Cozy up by the fire, pour yourself a sherry and sit back and listen to some spectacular spectral tales of horror. This book is a treat.

Outstanding

A wonderful collection of old-fashioned ghost stories, expertly performed. The selections are varied and the narrator, Simon Stanhope, does the voices and dialects admirably.

Good Autumn Fun

October is a great time to listen to ghost stories. These Victorian stories offer a thrill and a chill, but without graphic horror. Excellent narration.

Classic spookiness

Great period stories! The reader was very soothing to listen to. I would definitely listen to other titles of the same kind.

No chapter titles!!!! This book requires them!

Another otherwise good collection of stories ruined because they didn't put any chapter titles in. It's all chapter 1, 2, etc. So you can't just pick a story, you have click and listen for 10 seconds to see if that's the one you were looking for.
