Publisher's summary

Leorah Langdon has no patience for Regency society's shallow hypocrisy and unnecessary rules, especially for women. She's determined to defy convention by marrying for grand passion instead of settling for a loveless union like her parents - or wedding a stuffy, pompous gentleman like Edward, the Viscount Withinghall. But when a chance meeting in the countryside leads to Leorah and Withinghall being discovered in his overturned carriage - alone and after dark - the ensuing gossip may force them together.

Withinghall has his reasons for clinging to propriety; his father perished in a duel with his mistress's husband, and Edward must avoid scandal himself if he wants to become prime minister. He certainly has no time for a reckless hoyden like Miss Langdon. But soon the two discover that Withinghall's coach "accident" was no such thing: the vehicle was sabotaged.

Can the culprit be brought to justice? Strong-willed Leorah and duty-driven Withinghall will have to work together if they have any hope of saving her reputation, his political career - and his life.

Bible thumping, badly narrated

Can't finish it. Despite the fact that the narrator gave the hero a high pitched unattractive less than tolerable voice I was listening. Right up until the Bible thumping began. I tried to go with it, I respect all beliefs.... but it passed to ride and I gave up.

I enjoyed the story.

The story line was decent but the voice used for the Viscount was bad. He sounded like a wicked, old, decrepit man.

Enjoyable story

I loved the story but I almost wished I read it instead of listening. Most characters were given a good voice except for the the main male character and love interest. The reader made him sound snide and affected almost like a villain. I wondered that it wasn’t caught in production.

voice of viscount diminished the strory

Not as enjoyable as the first book in the series. A better vocal interpretation of the viscount may have help. The voice was shrill and unpleasant. The narrator was much more effective with the female voices.

The story was OK

Although the story was a bit predictable, it was pretty good. I just couldn’t get past the hero sounding like an old man. The narrators voice for him was unpleasant and a distraction. He supposed to be 27 years old- not 87

The story didn’t disappoint

I loved the story, and the narrator did a great job on everything except for the lead male.... he didn’t sound handsome... he reminded me of the cousin in pride and prejudice! Whiny and awkward!

Narration

The first book was great. This book was pretty good, but the narration gave me migraines. The narrator did a great job on the first book, but in this one she used a rather high pitched nasally voice for the hero and since he spoke a lot, it became grating. If that voice had been only used in a minor figure, it wouldn't have been so bad. Unfortunately it wasn't and it was painful to listen to 6+ hours of it.

Male voices grating

The narrator is very expressive, but I really don't like her vocal interpretation of the main male characters. Nicholas, the romantic lead from the previous book in the series, sounds oafish and the romantic lead in this book sounds like the Duke of Weaseltown from Frozen. Instead of being tender, it made the romantic scenes almost comical. Otherwise, this is a short, fun, easy read. I would recommend the kindle version of this book and skipping the audio.
