A great story and performance!

I have read several other books by John Mefford, having been introduced to some of his later books first. AT Bay was a great listening experience as the performance by Jodie Bentley added more to my enjoyment. It was good being able to get further background on Alex, the main character. The plot was good as well as the overall character development for all. I am a committed John Mefford fan and am reading another of his books now. I rate John Mefford to be right up there with Baldacci and James Patterson!

Wow! I just wanted tolisten straight through!!

Would you listen to AT Bay again? Why?

Absolutely! The story just drew me in.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Alex Trout of course! The story brings her full circle from an accident back to health and on the job. She is witty, sarcastic, smart, and an insightful thinker.

Which character – as performed by Jodie Bentley – was your favorite?

Alex Trout, the voices and reactions portrayed by Jodie Bentley were very believable. I can absolutely envision running across a person just like Alex Trout.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Alex and her children pulled together as a family unit really moved me - this is a ver believable occupancy. I happened so quickly and suddenly, just like it would happen in life.

Any additional comments?

I can't wait to hear more Alex Trout stories thank you John Mefford!

Surprising, Intriguing, Dark, and Fun

What made the experience of listening to AT Bay the most enjoyable?

I really enjoyed hearing AT Bay. John Mefford is an awesome author. I found myself biting my lip, laughing, and cringing at various points of the story. The narrator was good at giving different characters their own voice,,, always a plus.

What did you like best about this story?

The characters are a fun mix that play well off each other. very imaginative style of murder. Descriptive enough to get your mind going overtime but never stepping over into gratuitous gore.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Not only did I listen to this book straight through as I cleaned the house, I've replayed it twice since then. Looking forward to hearing the next AT book.!

I think we should start from the beginning ..."

Would you consider the audio edition of AT Bay to be better than the print version?

I have to 'fess up - I have been a Mefford fan for some time and read At Bay, the first in the Alex Troutt series, as soon as it was published. I thought it an excellent start and, now, six volumes on with the series at an end, thought to revisit Alex's beginnings with this audio version.

John Mefford has written a good killer thriller but the real success of this story is the way he is able to take us inside the head of a remarkable woman piecing together the clues as she struggles to rediscover herself and her world after an accident has brought amnesia. For the audio to work, the narrator has to convincingly become Alex whilst still presenting the world around her seperately. The first Ms.Bentley does well. It is easy to believe in the feisty FBI agent from her reading. But her coverage of tte other protagonists is not so good, the whole dramatisation somehow running together in her fast delivery even though she does provide reasonably distinctive voices for them all.

Alex wakes to a nightmare world, one she doesn't know - but which knows her. People claim to be her friends, her colleagues, even her husband. But to her they are all strangers. Who can she trust? What can she believe when all memory is gone?. Not only must Alex find herself, she is also fighting to discover the perpetrator of a series of truly unpleasant murders. And as she grows slowly towards the unmasking of the serial killer, so too her personal memories begin to coalesce and with them comes even greater fear.

I enjoyed this audio version but, honestly, prefered the print edition - I was better able to 'see' the various protagonists inside my own head. Nevertheless, it is a good story in either format and well worth purchasing.

Thrilling adventure introducing a new series

What did you love best about AT Bay?

Thrilling adventure. While Alex Troutt can drive you crazy at times since she constantly plows forward no matter what the consequence might be of her actions, the story eventually brings it all together and the team is able to perform as a unit and solve the crime.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Serial murder mysteries are facinating and I love how this author weaves in the clues, the forensics, and the actions of the main characters to form a cohesive track to solving the case and finding the murderer.

Have you listened to any of Jodie Bentley’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. I am impressed with her performance and how she differentiates between the various characters.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Just frustration at times due to Alex's pig-headedness. Although it is actually a part of her character, she seems to resolve it for the most part and can work successfully with the rest of her "team" to solve the case.

Any additional comments?

Highly recommend this series. I look forward to more.

Wow!

Any additional comments?

John Mefford has done it again. He deftly weaves his plot and characters into a tale guaranteed to make you keep 'turning' the pages. In “AT Bay,” he presents a new group of characters who quickly become astonishingly close friends, the kind you really care about.

The plot is definitely unique and, once again, John creates fully developed personalities right from the start. Even the secondary characters are much more than cardboard cutouts. “AT Bay” is a winner. I enjoyed it tremendously, and know you will too.

Just Okay

The story overall was okay. JUST okay. It took me a while to get use to the harsh language of Alex, the protagonist, in her interactions with her colleagues. It was so unnecessary and so VERY annoying.
If anyone could have been spoken to in a harsh manner it was Sidney, the rude Nanny.

Big disappointment

My husband and I tried to get through this book even though we were turned off from the very beginning. The kids’ ridiculous valley girl dialogue though ended it for us. I was disappointed in the body shaming and ongoing descriptions of boobs and body odors. I wish I could get my audible credit back.
