Just when I thought I was safe from deportation, I wasn't. Earth wasn't looking to get rid of me. My homeworld wasn't trying to pull me back. But of course there is no force on Earth or Dlamias that is quite like the power of angry academics on the loneliest planet. The center of learning and the symbol of a peace and unity that was more fragile than anyone wanted to admit...and I... their student, had proved myself a disruptive element, shaking the table on which a delicate house of cards sat that might tumble at any moment. I had to prove my worth, the value of my work, and that adding a ...

Now it comes down to it. I am coming to my final years, perhaps even my final days. Within these pages is the the last record I have the mental strength to add my reflections to. The ninth edition of the eighth publication of a study that spanned decades and reshaped the galaxy as I, and we, all knew it. I wish I could say I had all the answers, but I didn't then and I don't now. Perhaps you can succeed where I failed, and find them. If nothing else, these are a glimpse, one final glimpse, into lives well lived, and I hope you cherish them as I have, whether you have the lifespan of a human...

Story
Time marches on, life continues, the world spins, the uncaring Universe never noticed when one little dot stopped moving, nor one young girl got older, one family was wounded, or one confused and struggling alien tried to make sense of everything going on around him. I wish I could say all of my time on Earth was easy, a joyful time filled with light and games and happiness. But the reason all of those times where life was marvelous shone so brightly is precisely because there was shadow too. Some darker than others, I admit. It's been a year since our time in Chi'cagoa Rea, and we were ...

What can anyone say about meeting a sibling you've forgotten that you even have? What do you say when they come to you for help? I didn't have any idea, that's for sure. Bau's arrival so soon after my recent victory in securing a long term stay on Earth, was nothing if not disruptive. Or so I thought at the time, but I had no idea how right I really was, 'disruptive' did not begin to cover it. Chaotic? Mad? Dangerous? All seemed better words. Bau's plea for help was not for her, but for 'her humans'. The surviving remnants of the people who once lived in Chicago, a forgotten people who ...

Publisher's summary
★★★★★ "An interesting take on humanities future!" - Reader Review
___
A fresh take on science fiction and a glimpse at humanity through the eyes of an alien who doesn't know what 'family' is, until he finds one!
"Humans are the only known intelligent species to actively create 'Found Families' in the form of parents, children, siblings, and more.
If a human starts spending more time with you and initiating physical contact, they have probably adopted you."
These were the words that caught my ears when attending the most prestigious university in my quadrant as a minor in alien studies.
My intrigue led me to major in the study of humans, a new race to emerge into the galactic political scene, and one that had already in a mere fifty years, captured the imaginations of numerous races.
So when the chance came to go to Earth to study them up close, to live with a human host family known to our professor, I took it.
Inside the pages of these journals, you will find the record of my observations and experiences with human beings.
More than that, you will find how what began as a curiosity that would make for an easy career in a narrow field, changed my life forever, in all the very best of ways.
That's what happens I suppose, when you're adopted by humans.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Story
Three months ago, Tansy Bloom quit monster hunting. Since then, she’s been trying to live a normal life (whatever that means), but ending up single, unemployed, and living on a boat outside her godfather’s pub definitely wasn’t part of the plan. So, when Tansy’s ex-husband – fellow monster hunter Rex Barclay – turns up like a bad penny and asks for her help with his latest investigation, Tansy reluctantly agrees. At first, the job appears to be a straightforward monster hunt – following a spate of large creature sightings, Rex believes a werewolf is on the loose in Norfolk.

Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

My name is Aiko Tsuniki, and I was the unluckiest man on Earth. All of that changed when I found myself in another world. And I mean all of that changed. I was no longer a man, no longer a human, and no longer on Earth. I was, somehow, brought to the world of Manami, a steampunk fantasy world of industrialist goblins and elves, mechpilot dwarves, and adventurers of all kinds, plying their skills against dragons, monsters, and even international conspiracies. What's a brand new kitsune with no idea how to use magic, nothing to go home to, and no way back anyway, going to do? Become an ...

Story
Throw a rock into the water and you know there will be ripples. But in deep water you have no idea where the rock will land, and you don't know how many ripples your ill considered throw will make, nor what effect they will have. My actions in starting an interspecies fighting tournament has had unforeseen outcomes, and the export of human culture, as well as human diplomatic efforts, has only made things more chaotic. Add to that some disappearances, lost colonies, missing ships, and some very nervous prey evolved civilizations, and you have a recipe for disaster. And so, once more into ...

All Bonny Red wanted to do was land on a world, harvest some fruit to ferment it into alcohol, and be on her way. That... and just walk around and stretch her legs on a planet instead of her ship for a little while. She wasn't 'supposed' to get stuck on the planet. She wasn't supposed to land off course. She wasn't supposed to get caught up in an iron age massacre. She certainly wasn't supposed to take a side, let alone lend a hand. But faced with the desperation of a dying people, the fierce former scout turned pirate Captain cannot turn away. Which is a pity... for the wrong side that is,...

Half a Good Book
Space dog comes to earth and learns social media is a hellscape. It starts well enough as the main character provides an interesting view of family through the eyes of an unreliable alien narrator.
Then midway through the story Doggo runs to the government with a childish authoritarian plea to solve interpersonal social issues. It is clumsy given the level of education Woofy has and a missed opportunity to showcase his alien talents.
On side note, the book makes good use of virtual voice. It made me think that I was listening to a translation of the barks and howls for the main character.
