Publisher's summary

When Barney, a clever little dachshund, looks for a place to escape the chaos created as movers load the family's belongings into a moving truck, he discovers a box of warm laundry fresh from the dryer, and burrows himself comfortably inside it. After a refreshing snooze, he awakens to find that his makeshift doggy bed has been loaded onto the truck, and he is already on the way to Denver, Colorado. Although the rest of the family intended to follow the moving truck, when they were unable to locate Barney, they remained in Pueblo, Colorado.

When the truck is opened in Denver, Barney slips out nearly unseen, and by the time his laundry nest is discovered by the movers, the little dachshund is gone. Believing he can follow the railroad tracks back to his home and his family in Pueblo, he embarks on a journey that will lead him into a wilderness filled with wolves, coyotes, and other dangerous apex predators, determined to find his way back home.

Fortunately, an apparent junkyard dog named Bodo sees and sympathizes with Barney, and despite understanding that he must never leave his guard post, the little dachshund will need his help if he's going to survive the odyssey ahead. Although Bodo doesn't really know how far the little appetizer of a dog intends to travel, the 100-pound canine guardian angel resolves to do whatever he can to help Barney make it home. Even if he can't travel the full distance with Barney, he rationalizes to himself, "As long as I can find my own way back home by morning, then tonight I'll go with him...as far as I can go."

Another wonderful dog story!

Barney’s an inquisitive Dachshund finds a nice cozy napping place in a box of recently laundered clothing not realizing the box he is in is soon to be loaded into a moving van. Barney’s family is moving 90 mins away to a new home. When Barney wakes up he has no idea where he is and his family has no idea where he is either. When a train close by sounds its horn Barney recognizes the train whistle as being the same train whistle of the train near his home. Determined to find his family Barney takes off along the railroad tracks to get back home. Bodo a French Beauceron sees the small frightened Dachshund running along the train tracks and knowing what kind of predators will be along Barney’s path decides to break his owner’s rules and accompanies Barney for his safety. The 90 miles in a vehicle distance takes short legged Barney 3 days. Along the way Barney and Bodo are seen by enough people that when a social media story goes out about the families search for Barney and Bodo lots of people try to help. Barney is reunited with his family and Bodo gets a wonderful surprise as well.

Great story line and easy to listen to narrator makes this a fun story you don’t want to miss.

The Long Journey Home

As Far As I Can Go starts off as a heartbreaking story of a little dog name Barney that fell asleep and ended up somewhere he wasn't supposed to and trying to get back home to his beloved family. The story does take a turn for when he meets a tough guard dog name Bodo who doesn't want the pup to get hurt and decides to journey with him to get him home safely. I enjoyed their little adventure and the twist that came while doing so. I recommend this book to dog lovers who realize that just because a dog is an animal does not mean that they don't love, fear, or miss what or who are important to them. I received this book for free upon my request. I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased review here of my own volition.

Barnie and Bodo's Journey

I wanted to listen to this as I've owned miniature dachshunds for over twenty-five years and love the breed and after reading the blurb I knew if the author had any knowledge of the breed the story was going to be fun.

It was not only fun it was moving too at times bringing me to tears and at others making me laugh out loud. I'm not going to tell you what the story is about that is perfectly done in the blurb what I want to tell you is that the story is beautifully written, smooth-flowing and very informative about the areas in which the story takes place as the author manages to paint vivid pictures with his words.

Riano must have at some time known or owned a dachshund as Barnie is a perfect example of the breed, loving, loyal and big-hearted. This little dog has the biggest of hearts and the bravery of a lion when it comes to protecting his family you like many others will become invested in his story as you listen. The combination of Barnie and Bodo's personalities works well and it was lovely seeing their friendship blossom and solidify. The humans in the story take second place but their stories too are well done and interesting.

I've never visited Colorado but after listening to this book I really want to.

Their story is told by Joe Pavia.
