Publisher's summary

GETTING OUT WAS THE EASY PART…

Frank’s returning early to the city, whether its citizens are ready or not.

He’s been given a chance to pick up a stash of stolen diamonds, as well as get payback by settling old scores during his time out.

What no one told Frank about is the sadistic crime boss who runs a local syndicate aiming at taking the diamonds for himself, and that he’s willing to do whatever it takes to own a slice of the score.

Frank’s inside man also failed to mention that he’s been double-crossed by a few ex-partners, who are hunting for the ice themselves. Along with some of the city’s finest, who are willing to work off-the-clock for a chance at the score.

It’s not going to be the easy pick-up that he was promised as Frank tries to protect himself and his woman in a fight for both of their lives.

Interview with the Author

Q - So what makes Ash Wednesday special?

A - It's a stand alone book, but has a connectable story to other books that I've written. Its a different model than a standard book series. Ash Wednesday brings the reader into a different element of the same world as my second book, Liquid Courage, where Frank Gryzbowsky ends up leaving his fellow prisoners behind on a technicality, released into a hard boiled underworld, chasing a satchel of diamonds while dealing with the mafia, murder and an ensuing police chase. I wanted to create the type of book that I wanted to read, which is a great mixture of FBI thrillers fiction, where every character is hunting for diamonds, but also dealing with internal struggles, setting the story in a fictionalized version of Spokane, Wa.

I also thought that having a local mafia, run by a crime boss named Irish Pete, would bring a certain interest to the story. My aim is make a hard boiled book that effectively fits in the genre.

Q - Why should readers give Ash Wednesday a try?

A - My aim from page one of this book was to make something that I not only wanted to read, but had never read before. This is about various members of the underworld fighting to grab hold of a bag of wealth, in the form of diamonds. Too often, when you have a police chase or detective story, they rely on characters which are too pure or too evil. The characters who are shades of gray interest me, and honestly make for better story narratives. I also adding the logic behind why two prison guards would risk everything to hunt down Frank Gryzbowski and the diamonds.

Ash Wednesday is a great mixture of different genres, focusing on thrillers, suspense and even elements of horror in the form of Dr. Moreland's mastiffs and showing the true nature of killing someone, as Sully goes through a psychological transition, during the arch of the book.

I am a firm believer in cutting down on the word count as well. Ash Wednesday is around 80,000 words in order to be a weekend read, to keep you turning the pages with actions and an intense plot.

Thanks for reading!
