The first thing Sophia Amoruso sold online wasn’t fashion - it was a stolen book. She spent her teens hitchhiking, committing petty theft, and dumpster diving. By twenty-two, she had resigned herself to employment, but was still broke, directionless, and working a mediocre day job she’d taken for the health insurance. It was there that Sophia decided to start selling vintage clothes on eBay. Eight years later, she is the founder, CEO, and creative director of Nasty Gal, a $100 million plus online fashion retailer with more than 350 employees.

It is not native intelligence or natural talent that makes people excel, say Linda Kaplan Thaler and Robin Koval - it's old-fashioned sweat equity and hard work. And that claim is backed up by new research from MacArthur Fellowship Award winner and University of Pennsylvania psychologist Angela Duckworth, among others. Not everyone is blessed with exceptional intelligence, or wins the gene lottery. Story
But the good news is that you can excel beyond your wildest dreams in your career and your personal life - success is within your grasp - through the right attitude and determination.

Story
In early 2012, Jim Tselikis visited LA and met up with his cousin Sabin Lomac. Over a few drinks they waxed nostalgic about their childhood in Maine, surrounded by family, often elbow deep in delicious lobster while gathered around the picnic table. From this strong memory was born the very first Cousins Maine Lobster food truck. Smart, authentic marketing, and sustainable, delicious ingredients helped turn that one food truck into an overnight sensation.

Story
Throw Out Fifty Things is truly an eye-opener. According to Blanke, our lives are so filled with junk from the past--from dried up tubes of crazy glue to old grudges--that's it's a wonder we can get up in the morning, never mind go to work, care for our children and parents, and just put one foot in front of the other. Blanke wants to start a movement of people across America throwing out 50 things (magazines count as one!) that will help liberate us from the stuff - both physical and mental - that clutters our lives.

Arthur is a chauffeur who is intellectually gifted. Jonathan is no less bright than Arthur, equally hard-working, yet a billionaire. Joachim de Posada found the answer in a Stanford University study of children who were able to delay gratification by not eating a marshmallow with the promise of receiving another one if they resisted eating the first for 15 minutes.

Awesome book!!!
I loved this book. It made me realize that the job I’m at now doesn’t deserve me and that I need to open up my options. It has helped me learn that having many different jobs wouldn’t hurt.

Insightful
I agree with everything in this book. It would have been marvelous to have its wisdom all those many years ago when I first stepped out into the "work world". Fortunately, all this wisdom in one place works out grand for me. I've wanted to share such golden nuggets as these, with my adult children, but now I can simply give them their own copy of this gem, as they are beginning to navigate their own "adventures" through private and corporate America. The book was one of those not too much and not too little reads. so I finished it in a day because I couldn't put it down. It also reminded me of things, and I giggled some too, as I thought the author had gotten into my mind-as I've been refocused with that little thought - JPM!
