Loup Garron was born and raised in Santa Olivia, an isolated, disenfranchised town next to a U.S. military base inside a demilitarized buffer zone between Texas and Mexico. A fugitive "Wolf-Man" who had a love affair with a local woman, Loup's father was one of a group of men genetically manipulated and used by the U.S. government as a weapon. The "Wolf-Men" were engineered to have superhuman strength, speed, sensory capability, stamina, and a total lack of fear, and Loup, named for and sharing her father's wolf-like qualities, is marked as an outsider.©2009 Jacqueline Carey (P)2009 Tantor Contemporary Fantasy Fiction Paranormal Paranormal & Urban Wolf

When you expect a superhero book but get a sports/boxing book instead. Still, well written, good character development, interesting story.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Government conspiracy, genetic mutation, mistreatment of immigrants requiring social ministry, lots of action and a love story all taking place in the life of a 14-year old girl living near A WALL separating the haves and the have nots! This is Jacqueline Carey stripping away the lubricious language and providing a hard-charging new heroine caught in a dystopian border town. What a graphic novel this would make - what a MOVIE this could be. Teens should love it, Jacqueline's fans will find much new energy to enjoy. This is a grabber and - oh joy - just as I finish it I learn, THERE IS A SEQUEL.

What did you like best about this story?

Clever plotting, moving characters, everything I expect from Jacqueline Carey but in a totally different world.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Susan Ericksen?

Ms.Ericksen tries too hard to keep track of character voices that do not appear to be her forte. I especially wish she would learn how to pronounce the word "room," which is not intended to rhyme with "bum."

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Had to fight to find time to listen. It is captivating (as usual for Ms. Carey), innovative and strangely predicted some of the political scene of 2016. Hoping lots of YP readers get 'hold of it and enjoy Loup's journey of discovery.

Any additional comments?

Very anxious to get started in book 2!!!
