In 1964, James Bond's creator sealed a package containing a manuscript he thought no one would read until fifty years after his death. As an officer in Britain's Naval Intelligence during World War II, Ian Fleming had his own adventures to recount, and a conscience to unburden. His family ties and his career had taken him to the upper echelons of British and American society and espionage, the world of danger, betrayal, and deceit that he replicated in his famous James Bond novels. But this hidden manuscript contained a real spy story...with secrets that could explode history if revealed.

In 2005, Amy Greenberg -- a young American academic with a glittering future -- is summoned to Ireland to claim the contents of her grandfather's safe deposit box, in which she finds a manuscript by Ian Fleming. The pages contain confidential information so potentially explosive that Amy soon discovers that people on both sides of the Atlantic are willing to kill to maintain its secrecy. In a race against time, Amy must unlock the manuscript's secrets and outwit unknown assailants who will do anything to bury the truth. In Secret Service is a historical mystery inside a contemporary thriller, a brand-new take on espionage suspense.©2007 Mitch Silver. All rights reserved; (P)2007 Simon and Schuster, Inc. Critic reviews

"A monarchy in trouble, murderous treason, and a World War II betrayal that resonates into the present. The real thrill of In Secret Service is watching this contemporary and historical tale recounted through the fun house mirror. Enjoy the ride." -- Brad Meltzer, bestselling author of The Book of Fate
"First-time novelist Silver spins an entertaining tale . . . and his high spirits are so contagious that readers will happily go along for the ride." -- Publishers Weekly

If you could sum up In Secret Service in three words, what would they be?

Three words? That's funny....NO I Can't.

Loved the book with all the bits and pieces of two worlds meeting. It does fit my belief that Princess Dinana was assasinated and the book explains how. Patricia Cornwall had come up with the same theory. The 007 element is smashing as it flows with much of the newly released data about the Duke and Duchess of Windsor but also with a surprise element having to do with Prince Phillip that is shocking. Is this true? If it is, no wonder the British secret service wanted the book that Ian Fleming leaves behind destroyed at any cost. Try it....you just might like it! I am listening to it for a second time and that is a first!

What other book might you compare In Secret Service to and why?

No

Have you listened to any of Simon Jones’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

So many as it is a riveting book with that 007 element of excitement.

Any additional comments?

Thought Provoking

The details of Ian Fleming's life, whether true or fictional, sustain the story and keep one listening. The vessel for the delivery of the story is poorly developed and not convincing as are those pursuing and supporting her. I was disappointed.

Unbelievable
