In this sequel to Kim Vogel Sawyer's ACF Book of the Year Waiting for Summer's Return, a man wrestles with profound, life-changing decisions in 1904.

With a college diploma safely in hand, 20-year-old Thomas Ollenburger is torn between his Mennonite roots on the Kansas prairie and his affluent life in Boston society - and by romantic entanglements in each world. And now even Heaven seems deaf to questions about his choices of vocation, wife, and home.

the story lacks depth too slow and long it's like I am read about a immature boy and the end was no better

disappointed

For those who read (listened to) “Waiting for Summer’s Return” this sequel follows Thomas’ journey as he graduates college and struggles to figure out God’s plan for his life. The character development is thorough as Thomas navigates first love and heartache, learning life lessons and drawing on his own upbringing to make tough decisions.
The narration is frankly awful after listening to Barbara Caruso’s beautiful narration of “Waiting for Summer’s Return” but I kept on listening because I wanted to hear the outcome of the story (which was a bit of a surprise).
If you can get past the narration and terrible voice “acting” it is a very satisfying sequel to the original storyline.

A Satisfying Sequel

This book was slow in the beginning and a bit hard to hold my interest. The last part ok the book was better.

Overall slow start hard to follow

No German accent, for a man who immigrated as an adult? I found her voice too irritating to get beyond a couple of chapters. Too bad, as I was looking forward to Thomas' story!

Couldn't get past the narrator

Any additional comments?

This reader, Rachel Botchan, was not quite as good at the German accent as the reader of the first book, Barbara Caruso. The story not quite as good as Book #1 in the series, Waiting for Summer's Return, but still good. Loved the Christian/Biblical references of salvation and the characters standing for faith and committing to prayer. Now it's on to listen to Book #3!!

Book #2 in Heart of the Prairie series.
