“Nothing gets me to a bookstore faster than a new novel by Eloisa James.”

New York Times bestselling author Julia Quinn

A wonderful spin on a much-beloved fairy tale, New York Times bestselling author Eloisa James’s When Beauty Tamed the Beast is heart-soaring and fun historical romance at its finest.

Miss Linnet Berry Thrynne is a Beauty . . . Naturally, she's betrothed to a Beast.

Piers Yelverton, Earl of Marchant, lives in a castle in Wales where, it is rumored, his bad temper flays everyone he crosses. And rumor also has it that a wound has left the earl immune to the charms of any woman.

Linnet is not just any woman.

She is more than merely lovely: her wit and charm brought a prince to his knees. She estimates the earl will fall madly in love—in just two weeks.

Yet Linnet has no idea of the danger posed to her own heart by a man who may never love her in return.

If she decides to be very wicked indeed . . . what price will she pay for taming his wild heart?

I enjoyed this book however I liked A kiss before midnight a little better. The main character (male) is pretty mean. I am looking forward to the next book in the series!!

Good Book!

Beauty and the Beast captured my attention because it is still my all time favorite story - and this book delivered in every way. James does a great job of moving the plot along while developing the characters in such a way that you fall in love! There are so many ho-hum audio books out there that I want to express my humble opinion that this one is definitely worth it - IF you are a true believer in Beauty and the Beast.

A Winner!

An old romance with a new new twist at every turn. Great characters to love and to irritate you. Well written dialogue. Steamy love scenes. Modern feel but true to the historical theme. Wonderful narrator. Total enjoyment.

Not expected and wonderful!

This book sat on my wishlist forever because I wasn’t interested the rest of the series. Finally bought it as a standalone story. And it was wonderful. The angry banter between the H/H wins the day. I love the personalities in the side characters too. EJ took plenty of time to round out every single character in the story, even though they weren’t appearing in any connected books or stories. Even her servants get personalities and dialogue. It all came together into a fun, charming, only briefly distressing, and emotionally moving tale.

Loved it. Especially the medical aspect.

This reminds me of Georgette Heyer books. The dialogue was wonderful. There was a lot of it. I was pleased listening to the conversations throughout the book. It reminded me of what many books lack. I was pleased that I was surprised at times. And, this has relationship development. We get to know them through their interactions over time.

Piers was sardonic, sarcastic, and rude to everyone. He had a bad temper. The narrator Susan Duerden did a wonderful interpretation of Piers which might make the audiobook better than the book. I liked hearing him through her.

The beginning was funny with Linnet’s father and aunt assuming she was pregnant, even though Linnet kept insisting she was not. This is a good example of inaccurate assumptions (IA) being funny and well done. Normally I don’t like IA causing a fight or separation between two characters - with each of them believing inaccurate things about the other. But this was different because Linnet was honest and clear, they just wouldn’t listen.

Genre: regency romance.

4 ½ stars. Entertaining. Enjoyable. Engaging.
