“Chilling.” — Associated Press

“An intense psychological thriller."" — Publishers Weekly

From Elizabeth Haynes, author of the bestselling debut Into the Darkest Corner, comes a tense, gripping thriller about a woman caught in an underworld of corruption and murder.

Genevieve has finally achieved her dream: to leave the stress of London behind and start a new life aboard a houseboat in Kent. She’s found the perfect vessel: Revenge of the Tide. She already feels less lonely; as if the boat is looking after her.

But the night of her boat-warming party, a body washes up, and to Genevieve’s horror, she recognizes the victim. She isn’t about to tell the police, though; hardly anyone knows about her past as a dancer at a private members’ club, The Barclay. The death can’t have anything to do with her. Or so she thinks...

Soon, the lull of the waves against Revenge feels anything but soothing, as Genevieve begins to receive strange calls and can’t reach the one person who links the present danger with her history at the club. Fearing for her safety, Genevieve recalls the moment when it all started to go wrong: the night she saw her daytime boss in the crowd at The Barclay...

Dark, sexy, and exquisitely chilling, Dark Tide is another superb mystery from acclaimed rising star Elizabeth Haynes.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

A definite recommendation. Elizabeth Haynes is a fabulous author. She builds a story in a way that keeps you listening/reading!

Would you be willing to try another one of Justine Eyre’s performances?

I would NEVER listen to this narrator again...EVER. I got used to her voice but it was difficult listening to the story through her nasally, droning, almost-fake British accent (seriously, is she really British??). I looked at the other books she has narrated and they're all basically lusty romance novels. "Dark Tide" is not. So maybe her voice works well for those books, but certainly not this one! Please, Ms. Haynes, stick to Karen Cass for your narration.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes - Elizabeth Haynes has a way of writing to keep you in suspense, to keep you listening. You know in the end she'll eventually reveal everything, but in the meantime you have to keep listening to find out what's going on. Little by little she reveals the secret to the story. She also has a way of writing so that it draws you into the scene itself...she describes everything and you feel like you're right there with that character, experiencing everything she does.

Good read, bad narration

If you could sum up Dark Tide in three words, what would they be?

Fast exciting pace.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes.

How could the performance have been better?

Absolutely hated Justine Eyre reading this book. Found her voice so affected I almost had to stop listening. The performance could have been better with just about anyone else reading it!~

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Not one.

Good story but narrater so irritating

Dark Tide is not Hayne's best story- it's a bit predictable and the Heroine can only be described as 'twee'. Still, Haynes has a way of telling a story that works particularly well as an audiobook.

I almost didn't get this because of Narrator Justine Eyre. Stylistically, she is an excellent reader but her narrative voice is just about unbearable- it's simultaneously nasal AND breathy, but the icing on the cake is that she always sounds as though she's doing a bad Cary Grant imitation - while Cary Grant was doing an imitation of 'posh London' himself. Some of the character voices are far better than her usual narrative voice, making the narrative voice just an unfortunate choice.

I wish I hadn't used the credit.

Usually really enjoy Haynes' stories

Elizabeth Haynes did it again. It was a good listen that kept me insterested the whole book. The narrator Justine Eyre was delightful. Great voice.

Good Listen

I thought if I pushed through, I’d be rewarded.... NO! This book has back flashes mixed with the current timeline. BUT with no indication.

There is no real story here. And the ending... just blah.

Hated it! Don’t waste a credit.
