On the eve of D-Day, a British secret agent with unique powers goes behind Nazi lines.

Michael Gallatin is a British spy with a peculiar talent: the ability to transform himself into a wolf. Although his work in North Africa helped the Allies win the continent in the early days of World War II, he quit the service when a German spy shot his lover in her bed. Now, three years later, the army asks him to end his retirement and parachute into occupied Paris. A mysterious German plan called the Iron Fist threatens the D-Day invasion, and the Nazi in charge is the spy who betrayed Michael’s lover. The werewolf goes to France for king and country, hoping for a chance at bloody vengeance.

Critic reviews

"Simon Prebble's elegant narration adds dignity to a potentially tawdry premise: a British spy in Nazi-occupied Europe during WWII who is secretly a werewolf. As it turns out, McCammon's storyline is surprisingly plausible, and Prebble persuasively voices the spy's tortured introspection about his identity as well as the horrors of the Nazi regime…. Prebble articulates a wide range of characters--from a beautiful French Resistance warrior to a sneering Nazi officer--with just enough color to distinguish them. Also notable are Prebble's voices for the spy's fellow werewolves and his perfect pacing as the spy is almost cornered." ( AudioFile)

A magnificent story of a werewolf from first conception to a storied career in wartime of WWll! I have never enjoyed anything as much as this book! The authors descriptive style is beyond compare! I have read nearly everything he has written to this point and thoroughly enjoyed all of them but I have never read anything from anyone more sweepingly epic than this! I was worn out by the finish with pure adrenaline. I WILL reread this in the future! BRAVO!!!!!

This was a pretty exhilarating listen. The story was original and the narrator did a superb job.
My only critique was that the overly descriptive sex scenes came off a bit like a romance novel. I’m no prude, but they felt a bit dated and out of place.
A fantastic listen and on par with Swan Song.

A very interesting ride.

The story is captivating, the narration is pleasant and smooth. The characters are loveable or hated. It has a bit of everything, horror, suspense, romance (sex), even a cliffhanger. A mellow book thanks to Mr. Prebble's narration! His read and tone of voice is as such that makes one want to "pay attention". The "horror" is subtle, believable and the bad guys getting their come-uppin's is delicious! Can't praise the book enough and I am an AVID bad book returner! This is a gem I will listen to several more times, it's that enjoyable!

Thoroughly Enjoyable!

What made the experience of listening to The Wolf's Hour the most enjoyable?

The narrator was superb. The whole narration brought the book to life. The wolves during Michael's transformation period were loving to him and embued him with knowledge and language. He was taught to think like a man who was a wolf and to know how to fit into the human world. Michael's loyalty to his friends made him a valuable asset and especially when being surrounded by the Nazi forces.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the way that Michael was able to maintain his skill as a wolf while being human. The part of the story when he was trapped in the Nazi camp and became a wolf was especially telling. He was able to get his friend's out of prison and save the mission which was no mean feat.

Which scene was your favorite?

The scene where he swims to shore while the plane sinks with its cargo.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Nothing extreme but it kept my interest throughout the lengthy listen. I will listen again and read it on my Kindle.

Any additional comments?

Narrator is excellent.

A Secret Agent Man and A Werewolf. Yum!
