Influence: Science and Practice is an examination of the psychology of compliance (i.e. uncovering which factors cause a person to say "yes" to another's request).

Written in a narrative style combined with scholarly research, Cialdini combines evidence from experimental work with the techniques and strategies he gathered while working as a salesperson, fundraiser, advertiser, and in other positions inside organizations that commonly use compliance tactics to get us to say "yes." Widely used in classes, as well as sold to people operating successfully in the business world, the eagerly awaited revision of Influence reminds the listener of the power of persuasion.

Cialdini organizes compliance techniques into six categories based on psychological principles that direct human behavior: reciprocation, consistency, social proof, liking, authority, and scarcity.

Would you listen to Influence again? Why?

Definitely need to listen again - and purchase the book as well to reinforce the key points. Cialdini discusses the means of influence, how you can use them to your advantage, how others use them against you (so that you'll buy, volunteer, participate, etc.). He explains how, when you're confronted with someone else using these techniques, you can recognize this manipulation, pivot and filter the message/opportunity to determine whether you'd buy absent this influence - and if so, whether you still want to buy after you've been manipulated.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. The examples are excellent and it's an easy listen.

Any additional comments?

While this book includes excellent material, AUDIBLE SHOULD BE EMBARRASSED at the production. As others have noted, Audible just copied this from discs - without editing out "this book is continued on the next disc!" Amazing. And in three or four places, the same material is repeated - not a paragraph, but a page or more repeat. Seriously, Audible, an intern could fix this easily. Never bashed Audible before for production. This is amateurish. Still, the content is invaluable, so you just have to suffer through this annoyance until and unless Audible fixes it.

So That's How They Trick Me into Buying . . .

Any additional comments?

This is a great book, and a very good performance by the narrator.
But...

When the narration is interrupted by the "this is the end of the CD, the audiobook continues on the next CD" message, that just gives me the impression whoever was in charge of production couldn't have cared less and just ripped an old stack of CDs.

I expect better, the author and narrator deserves better.

Great book, sloppy production
