Jason Burke was a man hiding from himself in a small cabin high in the American Rocky Mountains when his simple, quiet life was shattered one night by what he first assumed was an aviation mishap. But when he investigates the crash, what he finds will yank him out of his self-imposed exile and thrust him into a world he could have never imagined. He suddenly finds himself trapped on a damaged alien spacecraft and plunged into a universe of interstellar crime lords and government conspiracies, along the way meeting strange new friends… and enemies. As he struggles to find his way back home he is inexorably drawn deeper into a world where one misstep could mean his death. Or worse. He desperately wants to get back to Earth, but it may be the end for him...or is it just the beginning?

The book doesn't waste anytime getting started. Ship crashes way back in a forest. A guy that happens to be ex-military, living alone and trying to overcome his past mental military battle scars, grabs his assault rifle and goes to investigate. After the ship takes off "with him in it", he is offered a spot on the crew "all other crew members have disappeared" by and Artificial Intelligent being. HEY! It could happen. :-)
He comes to find out that the robot dude is a tad shifty and his dealings are with shifty people and captured body cargo. They pick up some pretty cool people on the way.
This is pretty much a good start for other books to follow. I like all the different beings they pick up and add to the ships roster. It's not complicated and you fly through the book. The narrator takes a little to warm up too but soon he begins to fit in the book.
The bottom line is that I will pick up the next book when it comes available...

SIMPLE BUT FUN

Dalzelle wrote a great book. It was a true Sci-Fi book with some drama, and plenty of military action. But what I think was its greatest asset was how it was strategically based. Making it a thinking person's Sci-Fi Novel. The characters take advantage of opportunities but not everything goes their way.

As I write this, there are six more books in the series. I have downloaded the next one and hope it builds on what the first book developed.

Drama, Military and Strategy in a Sci-Fi Novel.

The book started off just like any other space opera, but to my surprise it drew me in as I got to know the characters. Joshua's writing skill moved me in to the story line and I found my self staying up at night (sometimes all night) to finish hearing the book & the 6 others in the series. I was sad to finish the 7th book, I wanted more !!! And still do. I hope to see more of Jason and his zany crew soon.
I have over 200 audible books in my library and have written a few reviews and only comment on books That (in my own opinion) are good listens.

So keep the good books coming Joshua, and I'll keep buying them.
The narrator was good also.

Took me by surprise!

finding out a new Star Wars movie was coming out cause it was such a big part of your childhood, but then kinda being disappointed with said movie...coming home, coming to terms that you're an old sh!t, then finding a this story, with lovable characters, great story, and such a great narrator that you develop your first man-crush. JD & Paul H are like Ben & Jerry, Snickers & ice cream, Tic & Tac, The Clintons & Scandals.

You WILL NOT be disappointed starting off on this epic series, a story that has all the beans, a great sense of humor, conflict, character development, and more, but most importantly, a door back to youthful imagination. And not in the fact of amateur writing, but the vigor and sense of enjoyment you had when first discovering the limit of your mind, then moving past it.

Stumbling across this book was like...

Very engaging story and every kid’s dream at some point. Characters took a bit but ended up lovable and unique. Can’t wait for a follow-up.

Incredibly fun book
