Heather Graham writing as Shannon Drake

In the days when Scotland lay under siege - from the Vikings who sailed from the north and the Norman English who came from the south - King David sought to unite his people into one nation. For this, he needed loyal warriors. Waryk de Graham soon proved the greatest of these fighters, and was knighted Lord Lion. But his honored position came with a price: a wife chosen for him by the king - a reluctant Viking bride.

Daughter of a Gaelic noblewoman and a Viking warlord, Mellyora MacAdin had an imagination that blazed with dreams of ancient myths and tales of adventure. She had already pledged her heart when she received King David's decree to marry the fierce Lord Lion. As he came to claim her, Mellyora swore to resist this barbarian nobleman - only to find herself a willing partner to his seduction. Now, torn between defiance and devotion, Mellyora must decide where her future truly lies, as she discovers the savagery in her family's blood, and the secrets of her husband's heart.

I would rate the first half as a 2 simply because I couldn't stand how the h behaved in the beginning. She came across as spoiled, stupid and childish, which didn't seem to be her normal behavior from what we see in the early beginning and the last half. I would rate the second half a 4.5, it was much more enjoyable.

Slog through the 1st half & enjoy the rest.

Ms Graham does a great job with the history of the time. The characters were exceptional and the reader does a fabulous job with her portrayal of each character.

Great book !!

A head strong woman, who speaks when she shouldn't and doesn't talk when she shoulfd. A stronger man with the patience of Job. A perfect match in old Scotland.

A wonderful tale of love, hate, battle and history

As a long time fan of Heather Graham's romances, I was excited to have the chance to listen to this one. Unfortunately, I didn't like the narrator's voice at all. It just didn't seem right for the story and with all the accents involved, she just couldn't carry it off. It's one of those books I think I would've enjoyed much more had I physically read it, rather than listen to it.

A bit of a disappointment
