Tanner Malone is starting to enjoy his navy post in the honor guard. After surviving violent conflicts with space pirates in the void, he hopes to stay out of the stars for a while. But when the government of Archangel, a prosperous Union state including four terraformed worlds, makes a dangerous decision to defy the Big Three's corporate dominance, war threatens the galaxy.

The interstellar fighting escalates, and duty calls a reluctant Tanner to the front lines, where it becomes more and more difficult to tell the difference between politician, pirate, and protector. When secret intel reveals a vast network of bloody covert operations, along with a rigged economic system that enslaves its members, Tanner finds himself at the perilous intersection between the government, the Big Three, and pirates who will stop at nothing to remain free.

This was an incredibly addictive read. This is not a "fast read", however the author puts so much background into the story that it totally pulls you in and keeps you wanting to read on, much to the detriment of my sleep while enjoying the story. Like it a lot.

Fascinating story line

Normally the 2nd book in any series sucks when compared to the first book. But with Rich Man’s War I believe this to be a excellent continuation of the story.

Amazing 2nd Book

Yes, it's a middle series book. No, it's not boring. This series impresses me. There's a hidden depth to the plotting, the characters are well developed and not static, the politics are more mature and the description of corporate intrigue are given more thought than the generic corporate bad guy in an SF novel. Oh, and the battles continue to be fast paced and brutal.

I very much enjoyed POOR MAN'S FIGHT so I was interested in picking up the second book. This is really where the main story arc begins with relations deteriorating between the Big Three megacorporations and the Archangel system.

The Big Three want to have a short but victorious war against them due to the latter defaulting on all its corporate debts. Tanner has moved up to being a Master at Arms and hopes to stay out of the fighting but we know that's not going to happen. I really enjoyed this book, significantly more than the previous one, and think the space fleet action was every bit as good as the ground stuff.

We also get some more development of Casey and his "peculiar" relationship to the Archangel system.

Excellent follow up
