In a night of devastating terror, ISIS operatives have unleashed a coordinated attack on America's infrastructure. Life as we know it in America grinds to a halt as the electrical grid collapses, communication networks are damaged, critical bridges and dams are destroyed, and major fuel refineries go up in massive fiery clouds. When the government responds by immediately halting fuel sales to the public, Jim Powell finds himself in a terrifying predicament - trapped five hundred miles from home with a group of coworkers.

With thousands of trapped travelers and scarce law enforcement, the miles between Jim and his family become a brutal gauntlet where the rules of civilized society no longer apply. As Jim puts his years of preparation and planning to the test, he is forced to ask himself if he has what it takes to make it home. Does he have the strength - the brutality - required to meet this new world toe-to-toe?

Where does The Borrowed World rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This story has two very good plots, man who is prepared to get home and home that works to survive until he does. No unnecessary character build up, no unnecessary "this is why I feel like I do" fillers, just a good old start to finish survival story that makes sense and kept me interested. Very, very good find, eagerly waiting for the next book!

Outstanding Find!

Excellent story and narration that kept me interested through the entire book. The story seemed plausible. Made me think about things I had wondered about in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. I would definitely be interested in listening to the next book.

This book sat on my MP3 player for about a month before I got around to listening to it. Once I started, I couldn't stop! I've listened to post-apocalyptic and prepper books before, but this one actually had me asking my husband, "how many rounds of ammunition do you have" and I've been eye balling my new neighbors with a whole new set of eyes.
I loved the story and the characters. It was a tad bit cliché that all bad guys had greasy hair, bumps, missing teeth, mullets, wife beater shirts, etc. Not all dirty guys turn evil during the apocalypse and not all clean guys are good. And the use of the term *itch when referring to a woman that someone was displeased with was a little overused. But those are the only 2 criticisms that I have with this book.
I also have to disclose that I received this book for free from the narrator in exchange for an honest review. Having said that, I should also note that I already PURCHASED book 2 & 3 of the series and have already sped through book 2 and am about to start 3. Yes, I enjoyed this book THAT much!
The narrator did a superb job!!!
Thank you for reading my review. Now I must go to Walmart and buy several cases of water and start googling "how to grow a garden." I should probably take some kind of "canning food" class too. ;)

I'm going to Walmart!

The Borrowed World: A Novel of Post-Apocalyptic Collapse, Volume 1 is my first Franklin Horton book. It does not bring anything revolutionary to the Post-Apocalyptic books, but that does not mean it is bad. It means it just not "the best book ever". The Borrowed World is a good book by all standard! And the 7 hrs and 54 mins goes fast away! That is why i made the wind sounds in the headline! It goes with the wind! Franklin Horton needs to give us book 2 soon, and i hope that he will! Because as always in a good book: I want moooore!

Kevin Pierce did an amazing job. There is quite a few different characters and at no stage was I confused. So that is why he gets a 5 of 5 star rating from me! He delivered and it made for a great performance, and that is hard sometimes in these kind of books! I loved him in Repeat Offender and he does a even better job here. You are one of the best Kevin! You really are!

What made the experience of listening to The Borrowed World the most enjoyable?

The fact that it is a Prepper novel that isn't written by a Christian radicalist.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but I swallow all of my audio books without chewing. It is a short read but it will pass the time.

Any additional comments?

The narrator is one of my favorites for post apocalyptic fiction. He has a somber tone that helps convey the heartache in the story. This book is by no means ny favorite Prepper novel, but it doesn't contain any radicalism or dangerous anti government agenda. For that I am grateful. It's worth listening to if your having
