Publisher's summary

For dinosaurs, it was a big rock. For humans: Coronal Mass Ejection (CME).

When the Earth is hit by the greatest CME in recorded history (several times larger than the Carrington Event of 1859), the combined societies of the planet's most developed nations struggle to adapt to a life thrust back into the Dark Ages.

In the United States, the military scrambles to speed the nation's recovery on multiple fronts including putting down riots, establishing relief camps, delivering medical aid, and bringing communication and travel back on line.

Just as a real foothold is established in retaking the skies (utilizing existing commercial aircraft supplemented by military resources and ground control systems), a mysterious virus takes hold of the population, spreading globally over the very flight routes that the survivors fought so hard to rebuild. The communicability and mortality rates are devastating, leaving only small pockets of survivors scattered throughout the countryside.

Commune: Book One is the story of one small group of survivors who must adapt to a primitive, hostile world or die. As they learn the rules of this new era, they must decide how far they're willing to go to continue living, continually asking themselves the same question daily: is survival worth the loss of humanity?

Great!! Buy it now!!!

Really well done!! If 98% of your 150 audio books are post apocalyptic or space sci-fi, then this is a must have for your virtual library!! I also really enjoyed the “history of the commune” setting. Really can’t wait for book 2!! ...and of course R.C. “Skippy” Bray!!!!

Simply amazing

Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING regarding Commune was perfect. This was a pleasure to listen to and an excellent start to a series I’ll be interested to hear.

They don't get any better than this!

If you like apocalyptic stories, this is as good as they get. I couldn't put them down until I had finished all three, only to be sorely disappointed that there was actually going to be a book 4 that wasn't yet out, although I was thrilled there was going to be more . . . now I'm waiting anxiously for book 4 to come out in a couple months. Excellent character development and diverse characters. You really become invested in the people and how they'll try to overcome the circumstances thrust upon them. Outstanding series!

(One note: There are a couple reviews that complain about the gun and ammo discussions. I respectfully disagree with them. Personally, I am not a gun person; I don't even own a single gun. But under the circumstances presented in these books, there is no doubt everyone would be scrambling to have guns, and everyone would know details about guns and ammo. I didn't feel there was much gun and ammo discussion at all, and considering the circumstances, I felt it was very appropriate.)

A very enjoyable post-apocalyptic novel

A very enjoyable post-apocalyptic novel. The character interaction and development was well done. Perhaps a little too much firearm emphasis and description, but otherwise was an enjoyable read. Picked up the second book in the series to see if the author can keep my interest. RC Bray as narrator delivered his usual excellent performance.

Awesome opening book with best narrator

What a great opening book to the book series. I really love how I really had a personal connection to each of the main characters and could feel their pain and fear in just trying to survive in this world after everything went to crap.

R.C. Bray did another masterful job narrating the story and making each character come to life. I really love his Hispanic woman's voice which was a large portion of the book.

Before book one was complete I was ordering book two. As I write this book 4 comes out in a month and I believe I will have killed book 2 and 3 by then.

Awesome opening book.

R.C. Bray is by far my favorite narrator and I have approximately 50 of his narrated titles. If you are not familiar with him look him up on Audible his has more than 300 narrated titles. You won't be sorry.

will be buying the rest of the series

good read. i really like the format of having the characters telling the story after the fact. bit like World War Z in that way, but rather than a bunch of different people telling their bits across the globe, it's the same few main characters going back and forth. this really works to build all the characters and attach you to them.
though there are some standard tropes for this genre which may make things a bit predictable, and at the risk of a minor spoiler: you kinda know who's not going to make it by who never gets a turn to narrate, and you may occasionally get a sense of past-tense about certain characters. i don't think that took away from the story at all though. i like and am attached to the group and i'm looking forward to seeing what comes next.
also, i'm really picky about my audiobook narrators. anymore, if i find a good one i'll start buying books based on the narrator's reading list rather than the authors i like. this one is quite good and i'll be looking into what else he's done

What a pleasant suprise.

I downloaded this book with low expectations. Im a fan of the post apocalyptic survival genre for some reason. For my fellow addicts, if your like me, the genre is fun but the material has a high probability of being garbage.
So after a string of turds, my expectations for this book were low. But boy was I impressed early on. Gayou’s material is good, its a story about people first and foremost and uses the apocalypse as more of a prop than the main plot. Weapon material is very accurate and detailed, and the characters are enjoyably interesting. Very Walking Dead-essque, in that it takes very little time to shift your interest from the survival, to wanting to know more about the characters. I really like it and will be moving through the rest of the books when available.
