Captain Jacob Thomas, USMC, is a divorced combat veteran just trying to get his life back on track. Returning to the marine corps after a failed attempt at reconciliation with his estranged wife, Jake volunteers for a DARPA experiment that catapults him into a future where humanity has been stripped of 200 years of technological advancements and more than half its population. With the help of a faceless benefactor named Alice, he escapes the confines of an abandoned lab facility and starts a journey to put Earth back on a path to recovery. Jake's path begins in the rich farmlands of central California and eventually places him in orbit and face to face with the very evil that started it all.

What made the experience of listening to Alice the most enjoyable?
it was a fun read, over all, has some problems but over all, fun.Who would you have cast as narrator instead of David Drummond?
anyone else, not enough voice variations.Any additional comments?
First the good. I enjoyed it. it was fun and kept my interest throughout.the cons: the reader has only one voice and it is sometimes hard to tell who is speaking. Also very little dramatization.
The adolescent male fantasy aspect was so bad that is actually got in the way of the story telling. The constant trading off (and comments by) the protagonists' harem was distracting though it did stop short of being explicit, so, no porn. Everything he tried no matter how far fetched still worked perfectly, solid future fantasy rather that science fiction.
But, I did enjoy it. and I will read the next round to see where the author goes. looks like a first novel. but fun.
good and bad
