The book that started it all! Little House in the Big Woods is the first book in Laura Ingalls Wilder's treasured Little House series, which is based on her life growing up as an American pioneer.

Told from four-year-old Laura's point-of-view, this story begins in 1871 in a little log cabin on the edge of the Big Woods of Wisconsin. Laura lives in the little house with her Pa, her Ma, her sisters Mary and Carrie, and their trusty dog, Jack. Pioneer life is sometimes hard for the family, since they must grow or catch all their own food as they get ready for the cold winter. But it is also exciting as Laura and her family celebrate Christmas with homemade toys and treats, do the spring planting, bring in the harvest, and make their first trip into town. And every night they are safe and warm in their little house, with the happy sound of Pa's fiddle sending Laura and her sisters off to sleep.

And so begins Laura Ingalls Wilder's beloved story of a pioneer girl and her family. The nine Little House books have been cherished by generations of readers as both a unique glimpse into America's frontier history and a heartwarming, unforgettable story.

Performance: Cherry Jones makes you forget that it’s one person reading this book.
Story: I’m so thankful Laura decided to forever capture this time in words. I learned things I’ve never known, I appreciate things I have, and I’m sad that we are missing out on some things that our society has lost. Morals, fellowship, and real food are a few things that come to mind. What a sweet yet difficult time she grew up in.
She captured this time and feeling so well and her and her daughter did a great job wording it in a way that just takes you to that place in time with her. I’m so excited to read the rest of her story!

She does a great narration of this classic!
I hope she does additional books. I really enjoyed this.

I'm completely obsessed with the little house books! For me it's the history and hearing about what life was TRULY like through the eyes of someone (someone being Laura Ingalls of course) who actually lived it. I've read the series a couple of times and was excited to add it to my audiobooks. my only complaint is the narration. it took me a LONG time to get use to Cherry Jones voice, it's just not how I had envisioned Laura to sound, the singing especially makes me cringe.
For those who are new to the little house books, I highly recommend them for everyone of all ages! While they are fictional children's books the history is real. The hardships of living in such a time and trepidations of prarie life, wild fires, illness, poverty, starvation, as could only be told by someone who lived it. I believe everyone should read at least once!

Love little house!

A wonderful book about simpler times. The fiddle music added in with the story is wonderful! Even my 1.5 year old son loved to listen to the music. I can't walt until I am able to listen to more of the series!

Delightful!
