LitRPG means Literary Role Playing Game. Simply put, it’s the book version of watching someone play a video game, usually one that’s set up like an MMO (massively multiplayer online) RPG. It’s a blend of sci-fi and fantasy, depending on how it comes to be that our main character ends up living inside a virtual reality. the point of LitRPG is not how we get there, but that we get to be in this virtual reality period, living life as a badass video-game character. Beat the grind and submerse yourself in these addictive LitRPGs.

This entire series is an absolute MUST read!!

The Land series is hand's down one of the best, most entertaining series I have ever read (or listened to) in my almost 40 years of reading for pleasure. I have read countless series over the years and have many that make my short-list of favorites. The Land is one of the most brilliantly written, entertaining, enjoyable series I have ever had the pleasure to read. Along with serious and suspenseful moments where you just know your favorite character has no chance to make it out of the mess he's in, there are countless laugh out loud moments. And for those listening on Audible, Nick Podehl brings Aleron's characters to life in a way you will never appreciate until you listen. Before The Land, there were only 2 series that I enjoyed reading a second time. The Land brings that total to 3!

This is anything BUT "just another" LitRPG series. Whether you are a fan of epic fantasy, D&D, LItRPG, suspense, etc., or just a fan of pure entertainment, you have got to give this series a try. The first book starts off fast and furious, and Aleron has maintained that pace through the entire series. Read this series and you will find out why Aleron earned the title of Father of American LitRPG!

If you have tried other LitRPG series and found them lacking, try this one to see how it is really supposed to be done.

Stellar Narration! Style tailored to Gamers

I'm a gamer. I drove from Oregon to New Jersey in a week... and driving 10 hours a day was boring! I listened to 3 books, a ton of NPR and I was looking for something different. I missed my games!

I already listened to another litrpg, the GOD AWFUL, "Tamer: King of Dinosaurs" and needed to try something proven... not what was clearly a grown man's pathetic teenage sex fantasy.

I was not disappointed by this book.

Hear me out. If you're a gamer you'll know what I'm talking about: Sometimes when you're playing games more than living a normal life, gaming elements start to incorporate into your dreams. You'll have a top-down view, a HUD, or an inventory in your dreams. Sometimes you'll loot something like a tree stump in the middle of nightmare, and when you wake up... you kind of wish you were still dreaming. When games mix into your dreams, you get the best out of both the real world and the virtual world!

That's what makes LitRPG so cool!

The main character gets sucked into a world governed by game mechanics, and rather than (more realistically) lament losing everything he's ever known or loved... he just sort of rolls with it! Haha! "Hmmm that was wierd. Ooh there's a person with a quest notification over her head... guess I better check it out!" Weeks later he's made friends, started a village, and only occasionally has he reminisced about his old Earth life... not ONCE does he ask, how did I get here and how the fuck do I get out? He's pretty much in heaven.

It does get a little exhausting listening to each and every stat block listed out... or all the loot descriptions... but like I said, the narrator is stellar. Occasionally I wondered if they got a different actor for certain characters... but no, he's just that versatile.

This is not Game of Thrones. This is not Harry Potter... This is like... maybe an manga novella?? I've never read one of those sooooo yeah. This is light reading to say the least. Young Adult for sure... but fun enough for this 37 y.o. gamer ;)

A great performance, and a great story

I’ll start with the story, it was great.
Well it became great. The beginning was rough. Like, I want to punch the main character in the face rough. He just came off as trying so hard to be funny and make light of his situation. But this changed quickly. He really grows on you as time goes on and he grows up considerably. The rest of the characters are quite likeable and the story and quest lines feel really grand. I throughly loved the world of “The Land” and will definitely be buying the rest of the series
Performance- I have no issues.
The narrator does a fantastic job. The individual voices were great to here and really added to the character depth. I really enjoyed the Mama characters voice.

Excellent

The narration is amazing, the main character doesn't sound like a teenager like he use too, but an actual adult, in his mid twenties. Sion doesn't sound annoying anymore; really all the things I didn't like about the first narration of this book were fixed.

I don't really care for the sounds before stat & explanation windows, just a bit overdone.

My favorite character voice is Mama, "Don't lie to Mama!" but they are well done. Nick Podehl has done great work in "The Gam3" and other fantasy book, and hopefully will continue working with both series.

CAUTION: this book will get you hooked on this series

AMAZING ENTERTAINMENT!! This book will get you hooked on this whole series! I bought this first book thinking I would try it out and didn’t listen to another audiobook until I finished all 7 books in the series so far! I loved the world that Aleron creates and Nick Podehl brings to life in this amazing adventure story. The story grows on you just as the characters are growing in their levels and roles. It shows how a great leader is formed - by serving and protecting his people. Overall great story line and I can’t wait for the next book in the series!!! Gnomes rule!

Speechless

I was just looking for a new book to listen to while driving. Clicked then bought with in an hour I was like this book seems really stupid and not my style. But decided to keep listening. I only use audible while driving. I’ve been listening at home nonstop and bought all the books instead of waiting for my monthly subscription to use the free token

Truly Immersive

I was so immersed in the world this book creates. I was having flashbacks to the excitement of playing world of Warcraft at 10 and to truly endless adventures that await. 100% recommend to anyone

unexpectedly enjoyable

I went into this book not knowing anything about the lit RPG genre, and was incredibly surprised to find myself enjoying the setting. it was different from anything I have ever read before. not only was the setting unique but the attention to detail and structure of the story and characters was very well done I have read through all seven books that are out right now and each book drew me into the story and the world more as I went on.

I just want to say that I have a lot of respect for Aleron Kong as an author. Great job man!
