Man's best friend.

Rick is like many Americans. He's concerned with what he sees on the news, and how the country seems to be ready to tear itself apart. His biggest concern has been civil unrest. Already an avid camper, he sets out to secure his future, and career, by finding his own Eden.

Tina is a small-business owner and knows what she wants in life. She and her furry companion find themselves at gunpoint when Rick walks back into her world and forever changes the dynamic between them.

One dog, who's been the savior, protector, and companion...Opus. The owner of two humans that mostly understand him. Mostly.

When the police walk into an ambush, a series of events forces the couple to bug out. The problem with having to leave for a small town, at a remote location, is it really isn't a secret. Small towns bring their own problems with crime, and power plays. Everybody knows everybody, and the gossip mill runs as fast as lightning.

Will the trio be as prepared as they need to be?

Overall this is a very good story. Boyd Craven does a great job developing the main character and by the end of the story you really feel like you know him. This book does a wonderful job of taking someone from a regular person to an advanced prepper. There is a tremendous amount of detail about prepping and decision making.

The only shortcoming of the book was the lack of action. There is some but you go for long periods with just prepping. The end of the book comes together well and I would definitely read another story by the author.

About the narrator - Kevin Pierce once again does a fantastic job. He is quickly becoming my favorite voice on audible.

Boyd Craven knocked it out of the park with this one. This is the perfect story for me. It has everything in the perfect balance. And at the center of it there is a dog that borders on human. If you are a dog person and have had one of those dogs that talks like Opus the story will be that much more meaningful. This is not an over the top prepper story it is just a story of a man and a woman with a dog putting away for hard times. This is a story I plan on listening to multiple times.

The narration is done by Kevin Pierce he once again delivers a perfect performance. There is a reason he is the go to person in this genre. The man delivers top notch quality each and every time.

Would you listen to One Man's Opus again? Why?

Probably not. Well, if I wanted to order in stock I would listen to find the website he listed.

What did you like best about this story?

It's a different take on the prepper genre. It wasn't as thrilling and dramatic as i'd hoped it would be, but the story line was there. The 'survival' part I didn't get because civilization was still fully functioning.

What three words best describe Kevin Pierce’s voice?

monotone. repetitive. non expressive

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No not really. A couple of times i laughed, but i didn't ever get attached to any characters.

Any additional comments?

If you're looking for an EOTW novel, this isn't it. Civilization is fully functioning and there hasn't been any societal calapse. However, it was still enjoyable. The story was good and there was character developement. I think i was just a little underwhelmed. Normally when you see 'survival and preparedness' you think that it's the end of the world as we know it and the characters will legitimately have to live off the land to survive. There wasn't much of that, but if you are looking for a short to-the-point book I think this one will entertain you.

The narrator narrates a lot of survival/eotw books but I didn't find his entertaining at all. There is little variation between the voices and if it didn't specifically say who was talking it would be hard to tell because they all sound the same.

Not super thrilling, but not bad either.
