Of all the Legiones Astartes, the White Scars of Jaghatai Khan remain the most enigmatic and elusive. Born of a civilisation that prizes honour, speed and fearsome loyalty, their allegiance has yet remained unclear even as the galaxy is torn apart by Horus' treachery, and both sides have apparently counted them among their potential allies in the war to come.

But when the Alpha Legion launch an unexplained and simultaneous attack against the White Scars and Space Wolves, the Khan must decide once and for all whether he will stand with the Emperor or the Warmaster...or neither.

Skillful writing, fantastic narration. The author does a great job conveying just how tense and confusing it was at this point in the Heresy. The White Scars Legion has heard whispers of treachery and the time has come to decide who’s side they’re on.

Tensions run high as they uncover frightening truths about the state of the Great Crusade.

This book is a winner, I would recommend this to any Heresy fan.

Worth it!

Knowledge was gained from this. mortarion still withdraws from fights that for some reason I don't comprehend.

Story wise, it's on par with most other Horus Heresy books. There are many I liked better than this one, but the story writing still had good battle scenes, some interesting characters, and some interesting narrative moments about perspectives of the events that have already happened that we haven't seen yet. I don't believe it really advances the timeline of the Heresy though, just a different perspective.

As for the narration, I'm a bit undecided. While Keeble is a great narrator, his voices for the White Scars is a bit... cringe. They actually go on in the story to explain how the White Scars don't speak Gothic well and their Chogorian accents, but even still it just seemed like a bad impression of a stereotype. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like learning a language shouldn't be difficult for Astartes to manage.

Overall, I wouldn't skip the book in the series, but don't go in with grand expectations of some of the other better books.

A good HH story, but not spectacular

It was wonderful to finally see the White Scars! The story was fun and the stakes high.

The narrator is probably the best so far in the series. Very good performance. Mortarions voice gave me chills.
