Torn from a life of comfort and luxury, his family destroyed by political intrigues and aspirations, a young boy must quickly grow into a man before the deadly streets of Southport devour him. Follow Azerick through a non-stop adventure that pits him against thieves, thugs, murderers, and men of power that will stop at nothing to achieve their goals.

Azerick must fight just to survive, but for him survival is not enough. A hunger to avenge the wrongs committed against him burns deep within. But that is not all that lies within the young man. There is a power waiting to be unleashed that may be the key to achieving the justice and security he seeks...if it does not destroy him first.

Good story that I found to be engaging and kept me interested. Good characters that grew and developed over time. This is a fun story that i would recommend. My only problem was the occasional mispronounced words by the narrator. They weren't often, but there were a few of them and each time they really distracted me from the book. I was given this free review copy audiobook and have voluntarily left this review.

Liked the story. Wasn't fond of the narrator.

I don't know if there is an audio filter applied that is making the narratory voice sounds hollow and nasally. There are a few segments at the beginning of various chapters that sound clear and normal, but mostly the book sounds nasally. The book has a rough start, but gets pretty good after the first quarter or so.

Unnatural sounding audio, pretty good overall

I thought this was a decent start to a series. It did a good job of world and character building. The narration was pretty good too. All in all, it was an entertaining story and a good experience. I would be open to more in this series.

Good start to a new series

William Turbett’s narration of this book is clear ( good discernment of characters ) and conveys the emotion of each scene. This is always a challenge in the first of a series with the inherent details of character and world building. Brock Deskins is showing his skill as he lays out the foundational groundworks of a series that may prove to be one of the hottest series produced in some time. In this first book we live through the devastating details of our lead character’s life, which leads from high society into the depths of life on the street. We see magic developing in his life and end the book as he moves into his own; hanging us, in anticipation of book2. I am happy to give reviews of each book as we progress, and as a reviewer my copies are free.
