You don't have to live overwhelmed by stuff—you can get rid of clutter for good! Decluttering expert Dana White identifies the emotional challenges that make it difficult to declutter and provides workable solutions to break through and make progress.

While the world seems to be in love with the idea of tiny houses and minimalism, many of us simply can't purge it all and start from nothing. Yet a home with too much stuff is difficult to maintain, so where do we begin? Add in paralyzing emotional attachments and constant life challenges, and it can feel almost impossible to make real decluttering progress.

In Decluttering at the Speed of Life, decluttering expert and author Dana White identifies the mindsets and emotional challenges that make it difficult to declutter. In her signature humorous approach, she provides workable solutions to break through these struggles and get clutter out—for good!

Not only does Dana provide strategies, but she dives deep into how to implement them, no matter the reader's clutter level or emotional resistance to decluttering. She helps identify procrasticlutter—the stuff that will get done eventually so it doesn't seem urgent—as well as how to make progress when there's no time to declutter.

In Decluttering at the Speed of Life, Dana’s chapters cover:

  • Why You Need This Book (You Know Why)
  • Your Unique Home
  • Decluttering in the Midst of Real Life
  • Change Your Mind, Change Your Home
  • Breaking Through Your Decluttering Delusions
  • Working It Out Room by Room
  • Helping Others Declutter

As long as we're living and breathing, new clutter will appear. The good news is that by following Dana’s advice, decluttering will get easier, become more natural, and require significantly fewer hours, less emotional bandwidth, and little to no sweat to keep going.

I'm a dad of 3 and was feeling overwhelmed with the amount of crap filling up in my family's home. I think this book will actually help. Multiple times I found myself thinking - "thank God! This lady is just as crazy as I am - tortured to throw away perfectly good stuff that could be used for a project one day! If she can do it, maybe I can too. gosh darnit"

I guess I have to declutter now

What did you love best about Decluttering at the Speed of Life?

Dana's narration was great--for a book like this it was fun to have the author reading the helpful tips and self deprecating humor was spot on. I have listened to another book about tidying up and I have to tell you the idea of pulling out all of a certain object or article of clothing into one room makes me want to go lie down. This book was short, funny and gave helpful tips on how to declutter your home in a way that is not too overwhelming. Real life advice for those of us who are just your typical, busy moms who have been overwhelmed by stuff.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Decluttering at the Speed of Life?

Duh clutter, procrasti-clutter.....her descriptions of different types of clutter as well as something she calls "clutter threshold" were easy for me to relate to.

Have you listened to any of Dana K. White’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

no but I would like to listen to her first book about organizing based on this title.

Easy to follow--I liked it!

I think this is the book that will finally help me succeed at decluttering. I love the five steps. They make so much sense. And I really enjoyed the author's reading of the book. She did a great job all around. I was using her steps before I finished the book.

Best Decluttering Book I've Read

I'm decluttering. I'm sick of chaos and stuff stressing me out. this book supported my hard work without making me feel bad about how crazy the stuff got. I love it and highly recommend it, even if your house is tidy. Everyone has a Monica closet to work on.

I'm a big fan of Dana K. White. She is down-to-earth, and speaks from her own personal experience. I love that she narrates the book herself. It's almost like listening to a friend talk about overcoming her own struggles. Her strategy for decluttering is simple and makes sense, and I've seen improvement in my own home by following her plan. The only reaso I didn't give this book a 5-star rating is because it tends to be repetitive. The same process applies regardless of the room or items to be decluttered. Still, listening to this book while decluttering motivated me to continue the process.
Be advised that this is NOT a book about organising your space. You'll have to look elsewhere for that.
