great story poorly read

I listen to All of Brenda Kay Davis's books on audio book. The woman reading the vampire Awakening series is amazing, this one, not so much. She has like two different tones of voice, it just didn't come across as well. I was a little disappointed in the story teller. She's very monotone and a little boring. However, the story itself is good! I can't wait for my next credit so I can buy the next one.

Strong heroine

I have been having a hard time finding books in this genre where the female lead isn’t helpless, need saving by men, and making stupid decisions. This heroine is a badass!! Amazing feminist read

Loved this book!

It's been a while since I actively listened to a book like this. I'm talking on my way to work, while at work, and on my way back home from work. Until I finished it. Loved the writing. Loved River and how strong she was as a developing character. She questioned her surroundings in ways that I - as a reader - would have asked had I been in her situation. Not all authors will cover such details so thoroughly. The ending tore me up a bit but I'm sure there are reasons why things had to go down the way they did. I've already purchased the second book and can't wait to see what happens next!

Good listen

I very much enjoyed listening to this book. The narrator has a lovely voice, though I was not a fan of how she delivered some of Kobal's lines. River is written strongly. and I do like how she and Bael aren't catty towards each other like I anticipated with some sort of animosity. No spoilers, but on that note, there was a scene at the end that felt completely unnecessary and out of left field. I understand something drastic had to happen to get to where we got, but I felt something else could have taken place. It did not fit or match the story in my opinion. Regardless, I enjoyed this and now I'm on to Book 2 :)

WOW

What a world I got sucked in!!! Definitely intriguing from beginning to the very end. I couldn’t stop listening and following along as well. Kobal a kind of hell is out searching for the one to end the war and soon ends of finding more than he bargained for. River as a little girl that is when a war started and her life and everyone else’s had changed. Knowing that she is different but ends up finding out more than she can understand. Life has been not what she expected when they took her out of her town by force to volunteer to the other side of the wall and leaving her two siblings behind and not knowing what expected. Great story and can’t wait to read the next installment.
