Good if you are a preteen boy

Disappointing sequel to Book 1. I was expecting a story about how Jack and his family traveled to Wyatt's home town and got down to the business of living simply but well. Instead there was no good transition from Book 1 to 2. In Book 2 Jack and his family are already in Wyatt's area and living off acorn bread with the younger son starving due to food allergy to acorns. They seem inept.

Introduction grabs your attention. Two concluding soliloquies by the Chief of Police and Jack pretty good. In between the beginning and the end, mostly shoot em up running around - boring and nasty. Villain Shane really vile. Wyatt, Dutch, Chief of Police seem to be the only mature men.

Not really a prepper novel. Interesting points about how to leach the tannin from acorns and how to get warm if you are dunked in a cold river. Not much useful information. This might appeal to 8 to 12 year old boys, but would you want your sons to listen to this since most of the men's examples are bad and appeal to the baser instincts? I was thinking this could be played on a car ride with young boys, but I think it would only encourage them to hit and punch each other more.

Travis Baldree, the narrator very good. I kept thinking the author, John Winchester, must be under age 25. Book 1 shows John Winchester's potential, this just does not live up to it.

Book 1 was so promising. I had planned on listening to Books 2 and 3, but after listening to Book 2, I will not get Book 3.

I cannot recommend this book.

Better than most in this genre.

Good story telling but a little short. Can't wait to listen to book 3.

Disappointed in book 2

I was disappointed in book 2. It was mostly hijacked by 1 vile man seeking revenge for the death of his son. There was also no good transition between book 1 and book 2.

Much worse than the first book.

If you read my first review you'll remember I said I only was going to listen to the series because it was free. after finishing the second book even though it was free I feel like the author might owe me a couple of dollars further putting me through this. idk what he was thinking.

Revenge killing for a son of a son of a son.

The over use of the word son was so bad it took me out of the story.

What happened between Baltimore & WV?

The author is good. But her left out and didn’t mention how he and his family got from their home back to Wyatt’s farm in Morgantown. How about a 1.5 book telling that story?

Jack taking on Shane is the best part of this book.

it wasn't long enough and it could have had a better detailing of all they got done to the point of their son dying. overall still a great book lots of lessons.

Ridiculous story

The ridiculous decisions don’t align with the circumstances, time and time again I found myself incredulous at the decision making processes. All the voices start blending together so bad I had to stop listening, overall this story missed the mark in my opinion
