Two years after the Pulse shut down the nation’s power grid, Darrick, his wife Tonya, and their autistic son Andy, show up on the doorstep of Darrick’s childhood home. Darrick must make peace with his older brother Jimmie and ailing father James, all the while reacquainting himself with the life of a homesteader.

Meanwhile, a looming omen hovers over everything he holds dear. A huge murder of crows circles a large, well-equipped, and organized group of aggressive survivors that are about to discover the homestead and threaten everyone’s way of life. When a bad decision leads to the loss of a family member, everything changes, and Darrick must reanalyze and adapt himself to the situation. Mistrust and paranoia take hold as Darrick struggles with the blurred lines between friend and foe.

Its the Post-Apocalypse world. You have to worry about everyone and everything as you struggle to protect your home and family. But what happens when the stress / strain of daily survival is too much and even family ties are pushed to the limit?

This is a really interesting story basis and the author makes all the little up's and down's the character experience in this story build upon each other in a run up to a great ending (Spoiler alert) for this first part of the the series. There is definitely plenty to build on just with what the author has already packed into this story but I expect even more twists and turns as he adds to the series.

The narrator, Kevin Pierce, is the best of the best and as always delivers a flawless performance making a good story very enjoyable to listen to.

Homestead: A Post-Apocalyptic Tale of Human Survival: After the Pulse, Book 1 - Top class entertainment, start 2 years after the pulse that ends modern society, so the supplies and ammunitions people stocked are used up and gone. This makes an unusual starting point for a series and promises to be a great series. Lots of action and fast paced
Great narration.

Good book. I love the main characters. Although I feel all the extra female drama is kind of annoying I know some people are just that way. (I can’t stand drama, and I am a female.) Besides that, I think it has a good strong plot line and subplots with realistic, relatable characters. I like that the son has special needs, as it’s not seen real often in post-apocalyptic fiction, and it would cause parents to need to ask themselves additional questions relating to survival.

Relatable realistic characters

Homestead: A Post-Apocalyptic Tale of Human Survival (After the Pulse Book 1) was a good read by L. Douglas Hogan. It has been two years since the Pulse shut down the power grid. Darrick, his wife and their son return to Darrick's childhood home. Darrick must make peace with his brother and sick father in order to survive with his family. I thought this was a great read and can't wait to read more in this series.
