About this listen

Clint Emerson, retired Navy SEAL and author of the best-selling 100 Deadly Skills presents an explosive, darkly funny, and often twisted account of being part of an elite clandestine team of covert operatives whose mission was to keep America safe by whatever means necessary. Just be happy he’s on our side.

Clint Emerson is the only SEAL ever inducted into the International Spy Museum. Operating from the shadows, with an instinct for running towards trouble, his unique skill set made him the perfect hybrid of elite and modern day counterintelligence agent.

Emerson spent his career on the bleeding edge of intelligence and operations, often specializing in solo missions that took advantage of subterfuge, improvisation, the best in recon and surveillance tech, and even elements of Hollywood disguise to combat the changing global battlefield. MacGyvering everyday objects into working spyware was routine, and fellow SEALs referred to his top-secret activities simply as “special shit.” His parameters were: find, fix, and finish - and of course, leave no trace.

While Emerson was a real life Jason Bourne as well as a decorated soldier, he operated by only two codes: “if you aren’t cheating, you aren’t trying” and “it’s only illegal if you get caught.” The Right Kind of Crazy is unlike any military memoir you’ve ever read because Emerson is upfront about the fact that what makes you a great soldier and sometimes hero doesn’t always make you the best guy - but it does make for damn good stories.

Worth the credit and more...

I listen to a lot of audiobooks of varying genres. I’ve listened to and enjoyed other books with similar subject matter, but greatly appreciated Clint Emerson’s direct and no nonsense narrative. The redacted portions are unfortunate. I’m sure there was a lot more to enjoy that has been improperly omitted by some bureaucrats who were too lazy to confirm the true necessity of so much redacting. Clint’s self performance may be judged to lack by comparison to a professional narrator. However, I found the expression of his own voice added to the authenticity of this work.

8.5/10

Great story. Although not ok for people who find blue collar humor offensive or unpleasant.

Awesome! Even the redactions are Funny.

Emerson bravely shares his personal history equal to the courage of his service as a Seal & SOF operative. Refreshing given the crowded shelves of Seal yarns. Even the DOD Redactions are hilariously addressed.

great read

I tried to avoid Seal books since I've read a few in the past and wanted to listen to more of my alma mater, U.S. Army. This book actually turned out to be one of the best books I've read. Clint did an amazing job narrating his story and made me laugh on several occasions. I recommend this book to anyone for a great read

Absolutely loved it!

Even with all the redactions, it was still a stellar story, all the more remarkable because it's a true story. One can only imagine all of the other adventures that are classified that he wasn't able to tell. A great read.

It Can’t Be True

Is the name of my memoir but haven’t had the guts to publish it. I traveled a similar but very different Navy path. Boot camp at Orlando with Jay North, Corps School at Balboa Hospital, was told to tell the girl behind the desk that I passed the Officer exam, graduated OCS, married the bartender at Coronado Officers Club, assigned to USS Ashtabula (AO-51) Pearl Harbor, exited the Nav on a very sour note but was handed Ship-handler of the Year Third Fleet by Adm Watson as I walk out the door. Successful civilian career, now retired. Oh forgot to tell ya, born on Ft Bragg, so I’m a real GI.
