Publisher's summary

The complete Dark Road series in one collection.

Ben Davis was prepared for disaster. He just didn't know it would come so soon. He and his teenage son Joel, are miles deep in the backcountry of the San Juan Mountains when high-altitude nuclear electromagnetic detonations light up the pre-dawn sky. Ben, Joel, and their dog, Gunner, must make their way home - or whatever's left of it - on foot.

Military guy lol

I tried, honestly I did. But this is the worst book and series. I listened to the entire first book and part of the second. There is no way a former Army Ranger would possibly talk, think or act the way portrayed. The story line ambles along like there was no prior planning and just written as things came to mind. The reader is not entertaining in the least and his portrayal of Joel the sun is a cross between surfer and pothead. The first book ended just as things got interesting, well a little interesting, like the writer just wanted to sell the next book. There was actually zero action in the entire first book. Anyhow, on to the next series, I am quickly running out of prepper apocalypse books and starting to dip into the bottom of the barrel. Good luck folks.

To Clean

Liked the series however traveling across country the family met very few people out of thousands which wasn’t realistic. Also everyone in the series had good speaking skills which was not realistic no profanity… the series had just enough to keep me reading to the end but it could have been so much better.

More please

I wanted to follow the Survivors back to Colorado! How do they manage to avoid the same problems on the way home?

Story was ok but

The story was ok but was very disappointed in the ending. Left me wishing there was more closure.

Too much about guns

Nice prepper novel. Heavy on the guns, ammo, potable water, food, and fishing. Light on actual food production. Ending would be good for another series re returning to their homestead and setting up sustainable lifestyle. Glad there was no swearing or perverts. Ben and Joel very nice father and son team. They assembled a good group.

Realistic description of the devastation 23 nuclear bombs could cause to the USA.

Very mild apocalyptic read

I got to wear I was trudging thru the chapters just to see if it turned out as predictable as it was going. It did. A so/so read at best.

A refreshing change of pace

A father and son duo sets out on a cross country rescue mission post EMP

the story flows well, and the father son dynamic is really well written. I loved how it wasnt overly tactical like a preppers wet dream, as so many of the books in this genre turn into.

if youre looking for a slight change of pace is the shtf genres, this will be a good listen for you.

It was really nice having a book in this genre that wasn't laden down with cursing and vulgarity.
