Lost in time, the town of Black Creek, Kentucky becomes home to temporal layers of people, creatures, and monsters from disparate eras. Journey beyond the time of humanity and witness the rewriting of mankind’s genesis.

For Owen McCoy, a typical day on the job as head of security for Synergy, a research company conducting mysterious experiments, is boring at best. And that’s the way he likes it. Patrolling the Appalachian mountainside, where his now deceased father taught him how to hunt, is relaxing and connects him to the past.

But today is not a typical day on the job. It begins with asking a thief to join him for breakfast. Seeking to set the young man on a better path, Owen invites him to walk the perimeter with him and consider a more honest living. Before their patrol can begin, they discover evidence that the facility has been breached. When Owen’s truck explodes, he’s confused, but ready for whatever might come his way.

At least, he thinks he is.

A wave of light-bending energy - the Flux - rolls down the mountainside, transporting Owen, and everyone in the nearby town of Black Creek, to October 14, 1985, the day before his father died. Two hours later, the second Flux hits, and then a third, and a fourth, each time collecting Black Creek residents from various times. They’re carried through eras filled with wild animals, monsters of myth, and ancient beasts...and then beyond.

Joined by a ragtag group of temporal stowaways, including family members, Owen fights to restore order, stop the Flux, and return home, facing off against futuristic tech, primal killers, and the fear of losing his father...again.

Enjoyed this book from the first flux to the last. Not science fiction but it is, not romance yet it is. Best book I have read in a long time.

Better than expected

This normally not the type of genre I listen to, but I had read (Kindle not audio) the author's book, The Distance, and really felt it was well done. I have found a new favorite author.

I won't go into any detail here as I do not want to ruin the suspense of the story for anyone. Suffice it to say, this is a well written book, action packed and never dull. But not tedious like some action stories can be but moves along at a great pace; I never had that "gee I wish this chapter or scene would just end" feeling. It is one that I had a hard time putting down. The time travel is no where near what has been written about ad nauseam in other books but a fresh new take. This author has an incredible imagination and writes very well. I was not a horror fan but ended up reading most of Stephen King's work as he fleshes out stories and characters so well, this author reminds me somewhat of King in that manner, making it worth my time to delve into a whole new genre.

I will say initially the narrator irritated me and by minute three or four I was ready to return the book, but the story intrigued me enough to keep going and within about 20 minutes the narrator was fine. To me, it is narrated like a Film Noir detective. My husband LOVES this narrator as he enunciates and speaks clearly. My husband is very hard of hearing so a narrator like this is one he can hear. For that the narrator still gets 5 stars.

Not your mama's time travel

Exactly the tyoe of stories I love. It hits all of the sci-fi fantasy science faith stuff that I crave. The performance was B- but I'm okay with that.
