When a body of a woman is discovered at a lighthouse in the Icelandic town of Akranes, it soon becomes clear that she’s no stranger to the area.

Chief Investigating Officer Elma, who has returned to Akranes following a failed relationship, and her collegues Sævar and Hörður commence an uneasy investigation which uncovers a shocking secret in the dead woman’s past that continues to reverberate in the present day.

But as Elma and her team make a series of discoveries, they bring to light a host of long-hidden crimes that shake the entire community. Sifting through the rubble of the townspeople’s shattered memories, they have to dodge increasingly serious threats and find justice...before it’s too late.

I live in Akranes in Iceland and was really excited to listen to the english version but the narrator butchered all the names of people and places it was hard to follow at times I had no idea what she was even trying to say. The writer, however, is so talented and the story is great.

because of all the two and three syllable names that was so foreign I had a very hard time following this book even in the end I wasn't sure who killed who but the narration was good but I guess you need to be Swedish to understand it better

too hard to follow

I found this very hard to put down, and neglected chores and obligations in order to keep listening. I had borrowed the book so that I could see how the Icelandic names that were so unfamiliar to me were written, and I actually read the last few chapters because I had to see "whodunnit," and reading was just faster.

I enjoyed Diana Craft's narration very much, and would have given her 5 stars except for the fact that there were times when I could not discern right away that the voice had changed, and so was confused and had to repeat a few paragraphs to reorient myself. But that may have been more of a function of the way the book was written than of the narrator's performance. As I said, I enjoyed her narration very much.

Finally, I can give no higher praise than to say that I am looking forward with eager anticipation to AEgisdottir's next novel! Well done!

Enthralling in every sense of the word!!
