בכל (א' ובפרט) יהודי יש ב' ענינים: זה שהוא יחיד וזה שהוא חלק מהכלל והציבור. ולכן גם בקרבן פסח שהי' הכנה ליציאת מצרים שאז הי' לידת עם ישראל יש בו ב' הנקודות: שהוא קרבן יחיד שנעשה ע"י רוב הציבור. וההוראה: ישנם משטרים שמתנהגים באופן של"יחיד" אין שום חשיבות והוא רק חלק מה"ציבור" ונבלע בו. שיטת התורה היא שהיחיד הוא מציאות בפ"ע ו"עולם מלא", שתמיד מתחשבים בזה ועד שלפעמים זה מכריע את ענין ה"ציבור". וזוהי גם מעלת מדינה זו שאלי' הגרו יהודים "מעבר מסך הברזל" וביניהם כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שהכריז מיד בבואו שבא כדי להראות ש"אמריקה אינה שונה" וגם כאן אפשר להתנהג עפ"י תומ"צ – שכ"ז הוא הודות לזה שה"ציבור" וה"משטר" של מדינה זו התמסרו להצלת היחיד. ומביעים בזה את הכרת הטוב למשטר המדינה והעומד בראשם שעושים כמיטב יכלתם לשמור על זכויות היחיד, גם בנוגע ליהדות.

In every person, especially a Jew, there are two aspects: the individual identity, and the fact that one is a part of the collective whole. Therefore, these two aspects are also found in the Korban Pesach, which was the preparation for the Exodus from Egypt, at which time the Jewish people were born: On the one hand, it is an individual offering, but on the other hand, it was brought by the majority of the community. The lesson is as follows: There are governments where the individual has no importance at all, and is totally absorbed within the collective. But the Torah approach is that the individual is an independent entity and a “complete world,” which is always taken into consideration, and which sometimes outweighs the interest of the collective. This is also the virtue of the United States, a country to which many Jews escaped from behind the Iron Curtain, including my father-in-law, the Rebbe, who, immediately upon arrival, announced that he had come to demonstrate that “America is no different,” and that even here it is possible to conduct oneself in accordance with Torah and mitzvos – all of which was made possible because the community and the government of this country devoted themselves to saving an individual. For this we express gratitude to the government and to those who stand at its helm, who do their utmost to safeguard the rights of the individual, including the ability to keep Yiddishkeit freely.

א) יחידי סגולה, כמו רבותינו נשיאינו, פועלים ע"י אמירת "טאטע איך וועל בא דיר פרעגן פיר קושיות" שגם אביו הנמצא בעולם האמת נוכח בשולחן הסדר ופונה אליו כך! אבל אמירת נוסח זה שייכת לכאו"א. ב) בזה שמכריזים בתחלת הסדר "כל דכפין ייתי ויכול וכו'" מודגש ביותר ענין הצדקה: אדם זר נכנס לבית לאחרי ששמע הכרזה זו מבעד החלון ומשתתף בסעודת החג ויש לו הכל מן המוכן! וזאת לאחרי שבעלת הבית עמלה כ"כ שיוכלו לחגוג את חג הפסח "כשר ושמח", וכ"ז נעשה מתוך שמחה וכו'‏.

(a) To actually bring one’s father to one’s Seder from the World of Truth by saying “Father, I will ask you the Four Questions” is only possible for unique individuals, like our Rebbeim. But saying the words is for everyone. (b) The proclamation at the beginning of the Seder, “Whoever is hungry, let him come and eat…” uniquely emphasizes the greatest form of tzedakah: Upon hearing this proclamation through the window, a stranger enters the home and is given everything for the Seder without having to put in any effort of his own. And this is after the woman of the house has worked so hard to prepare for a Pesach, and the poor person is welcomed happily etc.

זה עתה הגיעה אלי בשורה משמחת שלפני מספר שעות דברו (בטלפון) עם אנ"ש שבבריה"מ (רוסיא), ומצאו אותם עומדים בסיום התוועדות. על השאלה "מה פתאום התוועדות" היתה התשובה בפשטות – ה"ז יום ההילולא של הצ"צ! אם הדברים כך מעבר למסך הברזל – מובן כיצד צ"ל כאן! לכן מן הראוי שימשיכו עכשיו בהתוועדות זו וכו'. א' החידושים של הצ"צ הוא שאצלו ישנו ריבוי מופלג של חידושי תורה, הן בנגלה והן בחסידות (שלא מצינו ריבוי מופלג כזה אצל כל שאר רבותינו נשיאינו). ומכך עלינו ללמוד בנוגע למעשה בפועל ביום ההילולא שלו וכו'. ובהמשך להאמור: היות שבהשג"פ הגיעה אלי הבשו"ט אודות ההתוועדות הנ"ל ברוסיא, ואם יהודים במצב שהם נמצאים נתעוררו מעצמם שבי"ג בניסן יש להתוועד, עאכו"כ כאשר מדובר ביהודים במדינות שלא קיימות הגבלות וכו'. ויה"ר שההכנות לזה תהיו באופן המתאים ובזריזות, ומבלי לגרוע מקיום בדיקת חמץ כהלכה ינצלו הזמן בנוגע להתוועדות האמורה.

I just received the happy news that a few hours ago there was a telephone conversation with Anash in Russia, who were about to conclude a farbrengen. Asked what prompted them to hold a farbrengen, they replied that it was obvious: it is the yom hahilula of the Tzemach Tzedek. If it is so obvious to Jews there, behind the Iron Curtain, that one must farbreng on 13 Nissan – how much more so must Jews continue the farbrengen in places where there are no such restrictions etc. One of the unique qualities of the Tzemach Tzedek is the extraordinary abundance of his Torah insights on all areas of Torah, from which everyone must take a lesson and publish their own Torah insights. And may it be Hashem’s will that the continued farbrengen, and the preparations for all the activities discussed during the farbrengen, be done properly and with alacrity, and without detracting from doing bedikas chometz properly in accordance with halacha.
