חג הפסח נק' בתורה "חג המצות". החילוק בין חמץ למצה הוא, שבצק של "חמץ" הולך ותופח ומגביה א"ע, ואילו בצק של "מצה" שומרים עליו שלא יתפח. ובעבודה: "חמץ" מורה על רגש של גאוה והתנשאות, ו"מצה" - על רגש של ביטול וענווה. וההוראה: הנהגתו של יהודי צ"ל באופן של "מצה" - לא בתנועה של גאוה אלא של ביטול. ובנוגע לכאו"א מ"צבאות ה'" שזכו להיות בצבא שהרמטכ"ל שלו הוא ממה"מ הקב"ה, זקוקים הם לאזהרה מיוחדת שידיעת דבר זה לא תביא אותם לידי גאווה ח"ו כ"א לתוקף במילוי הוראותיו של ה'.

Pesach is called Chag Hamatzos; the difference between chametz and matzah is that chametz rises, whereas matzah is guarded so that it doesn’t rise. In terms of divine service: chametz represents haughtiness and arrogance, and matzah represents humility and bittul. A Jew must behave like “matzah” – with bittul and humility. Every member of Tzivos Hashem, who has merited to be in the army whose Commander-in-Chief is Hashem, must make sure that despite having this great privilege and quality, he doesn’t let it lead to arrogance, chas v’shalom, but rather that it gives him strength for fulfilling Hashem’s instructions.

כיון ש"תורת אמת" דורשת "בכל יום יום חייב אדם לראות עצמו כאלו הוא יצא ממצרים" מובן שישנו הענין ד"יציאת מצרים" בכל אחד בכל יום! והביאור: הרי ענינו של יציאת מצרים הוא הנסים גלויים שהיו אז, הנה כאשר כל אחד יתבונן בעצמו יראה שקורים אצלו נסים בכל יום ויום! לפעמים נסים גלויים, לפעמים הוא רואה השגחה פרטית גלוי' ולפעמים הנסים מלובשים בטבע, עד שאפי' הפרנסה של יהודי תלוי' באמת בנסים (רק הם מלובשים בטבע), כמסופר על ר' המנונא שגם כשהי' לו האוכל על השולחן הי' מתפלל לה' למזונות! וזהו גם הענין דברכת האוכל שעי"ז נעשה האוכל ברשותו של המברך ואז מותר לו ליהנות מזה, והרי אין נס גדול מזה שע"י בקשתו מממה"מ הקב"ה ה"ה מקבל מיד לחם ברשותו!

Since the Torah of Truth demands that “Every single day a person is obligated to view himself as though he went out from Egypt,” it is understood that the Exodus occurs every single day. Being that the Exodus involved open miracles, this means that a person experiences miracles every day, and when he contemplates this, he will see it. Sometimes open miracles, sometimes open displays of Hashgacha Pratis, and sometimes miracles clothed in the ways of nature; indeed, a Jew’s livelihood is entirely miraculous (just that it is clothed in nature). In this vein, the Gemara tells the story of Rav Hamnuna, who would daven to Hashem for food even when he already had food on his table. This is also the significance of the brachos made before eating food – the brachah places the food in the person’s domain, giving him permission to enjoy it. And there is no greater miracle than this: that by asking the King of Kings, the Holy One, blessed be He for food, one is immediately given food that belongs to him.

Today is Erev Pesach, the “first of the festivals”; it is the time of the final preparations for the holiday, including the Korban Pesach and the mitzvah to obliterate chametz. Today is also the Rambam’s birthday (and notably, we don’t know the birthdays of most great Jewish leaders), and therefore it’s an opportunity to once again emphasize the study of the daily Rambam. It is also an opportunity to encourage more study of the teachings of the Tzemach Tzedek, whose yom hilulah is on 13 Nissan, and the efforts toward providing every Jew with all their holiday needs, in such a way that everything is “placed before you.” May it be Hashem’s will that we merit the true and complete Redemption immediately, and go “with heavenly clouds” to our Holy Land, “and eat there from the sacrifices and from the Pesach sacrifices.”
