בכינוס זה שמתקיים בימי הפסח אין צורך להסביר תוכנו של היום: 1) מצד המתכנסים, שהרי ילדי ישראל תופסים מקום עיקרי בכל עניני הפסח, שכן התחלת ה"סדר" היא בענין ד"הבן שואל", וכל המשך ההגדה הוא תשובה לשאלותיהם של הילדים. וההוראה – שהילדים צריכים להתבונן בנעשה מסביבם, ואם עדיין לא למדו – עליהם לשאול מיד, ובודאי יקבלו הסבר מההורים והמחנכים וכו'. 2) מצד התוכן דחג הפסח, שהרי נצטווינו שבכל יום יהי' "זכר ליציאת מצרים", ובעת הכנס הקשור ביצי"מ ה"ז בתוקף עוד יותר; התפקיד הכללי של ילדי ישראל לבטל את היצה"ר ולחזק את היצ"ט – מודגש ביותר בחג הפסח: ביעור ושריפת חמץ מורה על ביטול היצ"ר, "סור מרע", ואכילת מצה ("מיכלא דמהימנותא), מורה על חיזוק היצ"ט, "עשה טוב". וזוהי "פקודת היום" שלוקחים מחג הפסח על כל השנה כולה – "זכר ליציאת מצרים".

At this gathering, which is taking place during Pesach, there is no need to explain the significance of the day, both because of the those assembled and because of the nature of Pesach: (1) Jewish children occupy a primary place in all matters of Pesach; indeed, the whole Seder begins with the child asking questions, and the rest of it is devoted to answering the children’s questions. The lesson is that children must reflect upon what is taking place around them, and if there is something they have not yet learned, they must immediately ask about it, and they will surely receive an explanation from their parents and educators etc. (2) We are commanded to remember the Exodus from Egypt every day, which is emphasized in particular at a gathering connected Pesach. The task of Jewish children is to nullify the yetzer hara and to strengthen the yetzer tov, which is also emphasized particularly on Pesach, where the removal and burning of chametz represents nullifying the yetzer hara (“Turn away from evil)” and eating matzah (“the bread of faith”) represents strengthening the yetzer tov (“Do good”). And this is the “order of the day” taken from Pesach for the entire year – “in a remembrance of the Exodus from Egypt.”

איתא במכילתא: "יום ה' נסעו ממצרים ובאו עד רעמסס .. ובא' בשבת שהוא רביעי לנסיעתם .. אמרו להם האקטורין הגיע פרותמיזא שלכם לחזור למצרים שנאמר דרך שלשת ימים, אמרו להם, כשיצאנו ברשות פרעה יצאנו?! .. אמרו להם האקטורין, רוצים ולא רוצים סופכם לקיים דברי מלכות, עמדו עליהם ישראל הכו מהם הרגו מהם .. אמרו להם משה (לישראל) חזרו לאחוריכם שלא יאמר פרעה שאתם בורחים...". וההוראה: כשהיצה"ר מנסה להלעיט את הילד עם עניני "טפשות", יש להראות לו שלא מתפעלים ממנו כלל!

Mechilta states: “On the fifth day they journeyed from Egypt and came as far as Raamses…and on the first day of the week, which was the fourth day of their journey…the emissaries [sent by Pharaoh] said to them: Your time has arrived to return to Egypt, as it says, ‘We will travel for three days…’ They said to them: When we left, did we leave with Pharaoh’s permission?…The emissaries said to them: Whether you wish to or not, in the end you will fulfill the word of the king. The Jewish people rose up against them; they struck some, they killed some…Moshe said to [the Jewish people]: Turn back, so that Pharaoh will not say that you are fleeing…” The lesson is that when the yetzer-hara tries to push foolishness on a Jewish child, the child must show that he is not affected by it at all.

בכל (א' ובפרט) יהודי יש ב' ענינים: זה שהוא יחיד וזה שהוא חלק מהכלל והציבור. ולכן גם בקרבן פסח שהי' הכנה ליציאת מצרים שאז הי' לידת עם ישראל יש בו ב' הנקודות: שהוא קרבן יחיד שנעשה ע"י רוב הציבור. וההוראה: ישנם משטרים שמתנהגים באופן של"יחיד" אין שום חשיבות והוא רק חלק מה"ציבור" ונבלע בו. שיטת התורה היא שהיחיד הוא מציאות בפ"ע ו"עולם מלא", שתמיד מתחשבים בזה ועד שלפעמים זה מכריע את ענין ה"ציבור". וזוהי גם מעלת מדינה זו שאלי' הגרו יהודים "מעבר מסך הברזל" וביניהם כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שהכריז מיד בבואו שבא כדי להראות ש"אמריקה אינה שונה" וגם כאן אפשר להתנהג עפ"י תומ"צ – שכ"ז הוא הודות לזה שה"ציבור" וה"משטר" של מדינה זו התמסרו להצלת היחיד. ומביעים בזה את הכרת הטוב למשטר המדינה והעומד בראשם שעושים כמיטב יכלתם לשמור על זכויות היחיד, גם בנוגע ליהדות.

In every person, especially a Jew, there are two aspects: the individual identity, and the fact that one is a part of the collective whole. Therefore, these two aspects are also found in the Korban Pesach, which was the preparation for the Exodus from Egypt, at which time the Jewish people were born: On the one hand, it is an individual offering, but on the other hand, it was brought by the majority of the community. The lesson is as follows: There are governments where the individual has no importance at all, and is totally absorbed within the collective. But the Torah approach is that the individual is an independent entity and a “complete world,” which is always taken into consideration, and which sometimes outweighs the interest of the collective. This is also the virtue of the United States, a country to which many Jews escaped from behind the Iron Curtain, including my father-in-law, the Rebbe, who, immediately upon arrival, announced that he had come to demonstrate that “America is no different,” and that even here it is possible to conduct oneself in accordance with Torah and mitzvos – all of which was made possible because the community and the government of this country devoted themselves to saving an individual. For this we express gratitude to the government and to those who stand at its helm, who do their utmost to safeguard the rights of the individual, including the ability to keep Yiddishkeit freely.
