[המשך] ועד"ז מצינו הדגשה מיוחדת במעשה בפועל אצל אדה"ז בתפילה: כידוע גדול ההפלאה בעבודת התפילה של אדה"ז וכו'. ב"ואהבת לרעך כמוך" ברוחניות: בהוראת הרב המגיד כתב את השו"ע (אע"פ שחשש מהאחריות וכו') שממנו הוראה יוצאה לכאו"א מישראל בחיי היום יום (ואף שמצינו גם שו"ת בהלכה משאר רבותינו נשיאינו, אבל זה לא נתפשט בכל תפוצות ישראל כ"שו"ע הרב"). בפנימיות התורה: כתיבת ספר התניא, "ספר של בינונים", ש"מדת הבינוני היא מדת כל אדם ואחרי' כל אדם ימשוך". ומכ"ז רואים איך שאדה"ז הוריד את כללות שיטתו ופרטי' במעשה בחייו האישיים. וההוראה: אע"פ ש"מי ידמה לו ומי ישוה לו" לאדה"ז, אבל מכיון שהוא "רועה נאמן", ושיטתו שייכת לכל ישראל – ה"ז מוכיח שכל אחד יכול ללמוד מזה וכו'.

Similarly, we find a special emphasis on actual practice in the Alter Rebbe’s conduct in tefillah, as known regarding the Alter Rebbe’s extraordinary avodas hatefillah etc. And with regards to Ahavas Yisroel in the spiritual sense, as seen in the fact that, at the Magid’s request, and despite his concern about taking such a responsibility, the Alter Rebbe authored the Shulchan Aruch, which provides halachic rulings for every Jew’s daily life. (Although the other Rebbeim also authored halachic responsa, they did not become as widespread among all Jewish communities as the Shulchan Aruch HaRav.) And with regards to the inner dimension of Torah, the Alter Rebbe authored the Sefer HaTanya, the “Sefer for Beinonim,” which “is the level of every person, and every person should strive for it.” From all of this we see how the Alter Rebbe embodied his approach, generally and specifically, practically in his personal life. And while “who can be likened to him and who is equal to” the Alter Rebbe, nevertheless, since he is a “faithful shepherd,” and his approach is relevant to every Jew – that proves that everyone can learn from it.

אדה"ז ייסד את שיטת חב"ד שמראה איך אפשר לפעול שכל כחות הנפש, וגם הגוף, יהיו חדורים בעבודת ה' (באופן של "פדה בשלום נפשי"), ולכן אצלו רואים זאת בגלוי ובהדגשה במעשה בפועל. ולכן דוקא אצלו רואים כמה דברים שבאו במעשה בפועל מה שלא רואים אצל שאר רבותינו נשיאנו. ולדוגמא – בתורה: הוא בעצמו הי' הבעל-קורא בפועל! הוא הי' מודד בעצמו את שיעורים ומדות השונים של התורה! בגמילות חסדים: את כל הנדוניא שלו שקיבל לאחרי החתונה ניצל כדי לעזור ליהודים לבסס א"ע במלאכה המפרנסת את בעלי' וכו' – "ואהבת לרעך כמוך" למע' ממדידה והגבלה במעשה בפועל! The Alter Rebbe founded the Chabad approach, which demonstrates how all the soul faculties, as well as the body, can be imbued with the service of Hashem (in the manner expressed by the verse, “He redeemed my soul in peace”). Therefore we find that this trait was embodied openly in the way the Alter Rebbe lived his life in practice, in a number of ways that were not seen openly in the conduct of the other Rebbeim. For example, in Torah, the Alter Rebbe actually served as the baal korei, and he actually took measurements to determine the precise amounts of the Torah measurements. In gemilus chassadim, he actually took his entire wedding dowry and used it to help Jews establish themselves financially etc., fulfilling the mitzvah to “Love your fellow like yourself” in a matter that surpassed all measure and limitation. (The verse states at the beginning of parashas Va’eira:) “I appeared to Avraham, to Yitzchok, and to Yaakov….” The Alter Rebbe states in Torah Or that “Va’eira” is also meant in the present tense, meaning that although the exile is likened to the state of pregnancy, because just as the fetus’s limbs have formed but do not yet function, so too, during exile the spiritual eyes and ears of the Jewish people exist but do not function properly: they don’t see the word of Hashem within everything and the reality that “There is nothing besides Him” etc. – nevertheless, “by Hashem’s kindness upon us,” He gives us the strength to awaken within ourselves the service of Avraham (love), Yitzchok (fear), and Yaakov (compassion) even during the exile. But this is not the ultimate form of service, because there is still “an entity who loves” etc., as the verse says: “I was not manifest to them by My Name Havayah.” The ultimate form of service is expressed in the verse, “Therefore, say to the Jewish people: I am Havayah” – meaning that Moshe Rabbeinu, whose essence is bitul, and whose entire being is that of “I am Havayah,” transmits this level to the Jewish people. In particular, this means the service of Torah study. In this way we come to the ultimate revelation of “I am Havayah,” with the coming of Moshiach.
